Now what is Transgenic Species? The basic idea of Transgenic species is that the process introduces an unfamiliar gene from one organism into another - whether it be an animal or plant. There are two main processes involved with creating GMO’s. DNA microjection and Retrovirus mediation gene transfer. As you can …show more content…
within these laboratory mice . Scientists have taken the glow gene from a jellyfish and have transplanted it into the female mice’s embryo so when it reproduces it’s offspring are born with the desired trait. Now what is the purpose , Whats its use… Well there are various uses for this technology, in this case the use of the fluorescent glow is a marker to indicate whether the gene transfer was successful, this information can provide us with whether there is the ability to intercept the germ line so they can test getting rid of various disease. Whether this process should or shouldn’t be used by scientist is controversial due to the ethics and other issues.
As all technology’s do they have a significant impact on society, the environment our future. Transgenic Species provides us with both positives and negatives that are too be considered. Therefore i’ll be giving two main pros and cons of the technology. The use of transgenic species has impact greatly, a revolution to science. It is no new procedure its be present for thousands of years just to a smaller degree. Only now has it expanded as has our technology. A major downfall within the impact of this product …show more content…
Something i found interesting was that this procedure is not new to us and has been ongoing for thousands, millions of years. Without it things such as wheat, corn, watermelon, carrots, kale, eggplant etc. wouldn’t be edible but this isn’t the greater issue. Currently 795 million people are left starving globally there simply is not enough food. a child dies for every two seconds world wide from starvation; this does not even take into account the number of people who are malnourished, there is a great promise in the use of this technology to benefit not only the farmers, but also societies worldwide. As farmers have raised animals who bulk up providing more meat. Currently these types of breeds are being manipulated so that in the future this meat will able to be consumed by humans. This breakthrough means that we can somewhat resolve hunger and potentially breed out any disease whilst doing
