The complexity of gender is misunderstood in many people’s eyes. The definition of gender is undefined, but many people believe it needs to be formed into clear groups; the most popular being male and female. Biologically many people fit into those two groups, but mentally there are many more gender identities. Whether people want to believe it or not, being queer is not a choice. There is biological proof that accounts for the reason why transgendered people feel like they are “trapped in their body”. This is a big issue in society because many transgendered people are harassed daily. The amount of harassment in and out of the workplace is a large contributor in why transgendered people have a hard time …show more content…
I have many transgendered friends myself and almost all of them have been harassed at some point. My trans friend opened up to me telling me all about their life and their transition. They explained how hard it was for them to accept themselves and truly come to terms with who they are. “Why would I choose this life if no one approves of me?”. Transitioning is one of the hardest things for youths to deal with because they face so much discrimination and hate at a point in time when they are truly trying to find …show more content…

They are discriminated in public almost anywhere, from outside their houses to their place of work to even on the street. Many of them live in constant fear of not only being embarrassed and being made fun of but also being physically attacked. Many transgendered people face mental illness because of this including depression and anxiety. “While there were too few cases of people under the age of eighteen to make any conclusive statements, people have found that transgendered youths are at a very high risk for many problems. Rogers (1995) stated that transgendered youths have a greater likelihood of
