In American Culture we are so used to conforming that anything out of the ordinary is considered down right displeasing and/or unacceptable in our society. For example, in places such as high schools and colleges there has been uprising debates on the accepting of transgenders, (or persons transitioning but already identifying themselves as the opposite sex of which they were born) privileges to use the restroom of their choice. Although transgenders are protected under “Title IX” meaning that “any school that receives funding from the federal government must treat those who identify as “transgender” by simply being respectful of their gender identity”. This contradicts the idea that their gender preference will not interfere with their daily school routines that allow them to feel comfortable with who they are.
