Transgender individuals are those individuals that feel trapped in the wrong body; in other words they feel that they have being born with the wrong physical sex. With this out of the ordinary social expectations in today’s society, Transgender individuals are struggling with many issues that greatly impact them as a human beings. Pflum and Stephanie L. Budge focused on the studies of how transgender individual suffer depression, anxiety, identity issues, and coping issues and all due to the lack of general social support. The author Samantha R. Pflum clearly states in one of the articles that “… the support of others can be instrumental in mitigating the challenges associated with cross-gender transitions and identification.” In other words it’s not only hard for (TGNC) to go through emotional identity issues, but in today’s society they also face the problem of the lack of acceptance from a society that has different expectations. In the first article the study consisted of “115-question Trans Health Survey”; the Trans participants were from U.S and Canada. A total of 1,167 participants took the online survey. The survey was divided into different categories and analyzed accurately. These included first the General Social Support (GSS) which was measured with the Berlin Social Support Scales (BSSS) in order to measure instrumental and emotional support, second the Trans community connectedness measured by the “Gender Minority Stress and Resilience Measure” in order to measure the degree of belongingness among the TGNC community and society, third the Depressive symptoms measured using the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Scale-10 in order to observe a self-report measuring “depressed mood, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, helplessness and hopelessness, psychomotor retardation, appetite loss, and sleep disturbance, and lastly the Generalized anxiety symptoms was measured by the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale in order to evaluate the symptoms of anxiety such as functional impairment.
