Discrimination is a part of every transgendered life. The transgendered community fighting for anti-discrimination laws is an ongoing process in the United States. In 32 states, it is completely legal to turn down a transgendered person for housing, employment, or health insurance. Many transgender people have also been discriminated in the U.S military. They have been asking schools to allow transgender students to use the restrooms of their choice. GLAAD (formerly known as Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and Human Rights Campaign have added transgender to their mission statement. Even though many churches believe that being transgender is a sin some churches are now more accepting, including the Episcopal Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the United Church of Christ.
Brad Dacus, the president of the Pacific Justice Institute, has started a petition for a vote in California that would force people who use bathrooms that do not conform to their sex at birth to pay a 4,000$ fine. Dacus believes people who have body dysphoria choose to have the disorder. A principal at Madison West, in Madison, Wisconsin, chose to make prom gender neutral after 1,000 students signed a petition to have it changed.
