Discrimination Against Transgenders

Early April 2016 North Carolina passed a law restricting governments from passing laws that are anti- discriminatory. With this law in effect it will lead to the protection of transgender people. Discrimination against transgenders is against the law and has stirred up arguments throughout the nation. With more and more transgenders standing up against discrimination, this has become a national issue. There has never been one case reported where a transgender has attacked anyone in a public restroom. So how could this conjure up the thought of “why go through emotional and physical steps to identify oneself as a transgender just to be used to carry out these alleged evil acts in public restrooms?”Unfortunately, transgenders continue to face …show more content…
This has brought up major controversy nation wide, and directly with the shoppers at Target. With Target on a nation wide spotlight, a petition has been brought upon the AFA calling for a boycott against Target with signatures are growing tremendously. After the policy was publicized that Target stated that individuals may use the bathroom or fitting room matching up with their gender identity, it brought up controversy with not customers and other retail stores. This lead to questions on how other retail stores are taking a stance on the topic itself. Target made the statement that “We believe that everyone - every team member, every guest, and every community - deserves to be protected from discrimination, and treated equally”. This in fact plays a key role in how other stores are deciding to approach this topic. How are other stores responding to the policies? Will they go public with their own statements or do they fear loosing their business as well? While statements made by Target have backfired, some retail stores of those who run businesses throughout the country have signed Human Rights Campaign that calls for a repeal of NC’s law. These retail stores are providing their support by signing this letter but they are just not becoming verbal about …show more content…
This has brought up controversy and protest against the bill. The fear of endangerment to women and young children are being brought up as an issue with the Bathroom Bill. But what about the dangers transgenders may face? While there may be fear of transgenders attacking others in public bathrooms, there have been many incidents where transgenders have been attacked themselves. Transgender doesn’t mean violent offender or pedophile when these claims are made. In recent news, a woman using the restroom at Walmart was accused of being a transgender then furthermore harassed in the bathroom. The law does not bring up crimes in the bathrooms nor does it give an invitation for men to dress up as women and walk into the ladies restroom. The law simply is a way of proving equality to those who face the discrimination of the public. With this law being passed it supports the civil rights granted to US citizens and protects the entitlement of Title IX. The “Civil Rights are the tights of individuals to receive equal treatment (and to be free from unfair treatment or “discrimination”) in a number of settings -- including education, employment, housing, and more -- and based on certain legally-protected characteristics.”(Findlaw.com) Along with Title IX which “protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that

A law permitting transgenders to the bathroom could possibly allow predators to physically hurt boys and girls. But, this possibility is one which society can bear for “the sake of the greater good of human freedom” (Mill 43). Society must endure possible damage, for the sake of individual expression. There should instead be a law that punishes sexual predators for assaulting boys and girls in bathrooms. Rather than one that bans transgenders from entering bathrooms they feel comfortable with, from fear of possible sexual…

But these anti-LGBT bills, like the ones in North Carolina and Mississippi, actually make us less safe, not more safe. They open the door to abuse, aggressive and confrontational behavior in bathrooms, and encourage strangers to demand that women and girls prove that they are actually female in order to use the restroom. No one wants that. If one of these harmful bills is introduced in your city or state, please take a moment and listen to the stories of actual transgender people who live near you. Let's help their voices are heard over the fear mongering from the other…

This bill (House Bill two, often abbreviated to HB2) requires that transgender people, regardless of the surgeries they may or may have had, to use public bathrooms that correspond to the sex on their birth certificate. Many people believe that this was out of fear that a trans women, who they believe is still a man, would try to come into the women’s restroom and harass women or children. The only time I’ve heard of harassment in a public restroom is from cis-gendered people harassing transgender people or people of the same gender…

Even though there have been no reported incidents or problems because of laws and initiatives that have been passed, there is still aggressive efforts being made to repeal certain laws, and pass more restrictive and discriminatory laws that would perpetuate the heteronormative social agenda. Attack adds have become a social norm for advocating against transgender rights, which stems from something the authors designate as “penis panic.” Westbrook and Schilt make the argument that sexuality…

The importance of the protection and equality of the LGBTQ community has come to the forefront in not only the country, but in our own school systems over the past few years. The rights and protections of these individuals began to increase under laws created by the Obama Administration. However, the new Trump administration has began to threaten these rights by taking back the protection of transgender students by revoking their right to use restrooms that match their gender identity. The Trump administration offers the reason for their revoking of these rights by stating, that these protections were only revoked because it “lacked extensive legal analysis, did not go through a public vetting process, and sowed confusion and drew legal challenges…
