These are guidelines for the health care professionals in the United Kingdom and it shows a positive change in the treatment for the patients in this community that were once identified as criminals, unfortunately this all of does not take the stigma away from the community. These guidelines are consistent with the recent revision of the Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Non-Conforming People – Version 7which were published by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (Coleman et al.,2011). This article gives light on the subject that every patient even with the same label of transgender is unique to each person because their plan of care should be set for their personal needs. Health care personnel are educated and required to identify with everyone according to their needs unlike the first article that used painful and stressful therapy techniques in order to cure a patient. The techniques are opposite in this set guidelines to provide comfort and support to these patients. The nurses have been properly trained to know how to care for or get the information to care for someone in this community. The commitment to the patient to advocate for them when needed, keep them informed, and to provide teaching. Allow the patient ability to understand their course of care and promote therapeutic communication between all that are involved. A valued quality in a patient advocate is to be aware of sensitivity the patient may have rather it be their sexual orientation, culture, religious beliefs, or personal preference. When educating, a patient confirms the patient’s understanding of your teaching, clear communication between advocate and patient. This will create trust and willingness from the patient to be trusting and share. These open communications will allow discoveries of new information for the health care system to better patients. Having the support, they need lowers their chances of suicide, lower depression symptoms, high blood pressure, lower stress and empower patients to be active participates in their care.
