One of the biggest problems with the transgender bathroom law once it passes is how will it be enforced. For this law to work there would have to be police officer in or near every public restroom. North Carolina lost an estimated $600 million dollars in just 6 months after the law passed. The NBA All-star game was removed from North Carolina, March Madness regional games was transferred out of North Carolina, and expansions of PayPal and Deutsche Bank postponed their expansions (Goodwyn). Meanwhile, if Texas were to pass a law making transgenders use the bathroom of their birth gender it is estimated that Texas could lose up to $8.5 billion in GDP and lose 185,000 jobs. Discrimination isn’t a good thing for business and if Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick cared about business he wouldn’t try for this bill (McGaughy).
The main purpose of these transgender bathroom laws is that many Republicans believe that without them there will be dangerous bathrooms. With over 200 municipalities and 18 states allowing transgendered people to use the bathroom of their choice none of those places have seen an increase in public safety issues because of the lack of bathroom laws (Borrello). There are only a few cases of any instances of harassment or inappropriate conduct with transgender protection laws and there also aren’t any instances of harassment or inappropriate conduct with transgender bathrooms in public schools
