Perfect Criminal Justice System

I could not imagine living in a country that did not have a criminal justice system. I would live my life day to day in fear of being hurt and not having anyone to turn to in order for justice to be served. I am glad that I live in an error where there is a criminal justice system put into place to try and ensure the safety of the citizens in the communities. Although it is not a perfect criminal justice system but it is still a system that works for majority of the situations that occur. The United States was not always a place that possessed a criminal justice system. It was not until the early 1700’s that the United Sates began to put a criminal justice system in place. Criminals sometime get away with crimes without going to jail and sometime innocent people go to jail. Just like every other system they criminal justice system has its flaws. However, the criminal justice system has save many lives and has come a long way since the 1700 because of the three components that it is comprised of. The police department patrols the streets and arrives at the scene when they are called in order to keep the citizens safe. The court systems helps to get justice for people by letting them plead their case so they can fight for their innocents and the corrections portion of the system give criminals an opportunity to server their time in a secure and safe place. Without the criminal justice system I think the world would be full of chaos and random people trying to be hero’s but really hurting the community (Misis and Sabath, …show more content…
One of the major criminal issues that stick out to me is the criminal issues on drugs. People of all ages think that it is okay to sell and use illegal drug substances. For the youth and young adults, they believe that buying and selling drugs is the new and excited cool thing to do when in fact they are destroying their lives. A lot of criminal activity takes place when people are under the influence and people do stupid things and get hurt. Many people are fascinated with marijuana and or lacking their marijuana with another drug to increase their high. Drug dealers are making major profits off of college students and people in the community who enjoy the drugs. There are students who sell drugs to students and neighbors who sell drugs to neighbors. It is a crime within today’s society and it is almost accepted in today’s society because people are doing drugs in recreational settings and in business

A criminal justice system is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as “The system of law enforcement that is directly involved in apprehending, prosecuting, defending, sentencing, and punishing those who are suspected or convicted of criminal offenses.” (Oxford, 2016) While the definition uses the term law enforcement, the legal system and corrections also make up the legal system along with the police. It may be outlandish to expect that the criminal justice system (or any system in government or society for that matter) to be perfect. Small, isolated errors should be expected, but should not interfere with the main goal of achieving justice.…

Since the beginning of civilization there has been crime. People, for years, have tried to eliminate crime in many ways. For many today, people believe prision is a way to be rid of crime and keep our streets safe. To believe that prison is the only way is a path of ignorance. Proof of this comes from; a town in Georgia has figured out an issue that Chicago has been dealing with for years, a criminology report has shown the failures of a prison, and the fraction of issues stopped but a majority rise.…

According to statistics provided by the Bureau of Statistics 1 out of every 108 adults are were incarcerated in some form of facility at the end of 2012 (Glaze, 2013). Despite having one of the largest prison populations in the world, the United States is still suffering from high levels of criminal activity. The ways, in which this country is currently dealing with crime, do not appear to be all that helpful and some ways seem to be promoting a higher rate of crime. Too often the criminal justice system is relying on incarceration as a way of handling criminal activity when in fact they should be relying on other means.…

Far too many Americans are stuck behind bars. There are currently five times as many people incarcerated now than there were in 1970.The war on drug got out of control, meaning that many nonviolent people wound up in prison. That has cause our prisons to be overcrowded. “Lots of people are having their life destroy, not because they have to,but because we have chosen to ignore a basic commit to justice and equality.…

Drug addiction is the root of crime in the United States, in a 1997 report 80% of State inmates reported past drug use reported by Chris Mumola (1999). If the criminal justice system could reduce the number of people abusing drugs, it would reduce not only drug related crimes, but would reduce the amount of all crimes. A reduction in crime would result in a safer and more productive society. Without changing how the criminal justice system views drug addiction we will never see a significant decrease in the crime rate across the United States.…

According to Jeffrey Reiman, the United States criminal justice system is failing due to three main reasons: it fails to reduce crime, fails to identify all crimes, and fails to eliminate economic bias in terms of punishment. Reiman believes that these three failures stem from the concept of ideology. Reiman defines ideology as, “a set of ideas that function to distort reality in a way that justifies an unequal distribution of power and wealth, hides society’s injustices and secures uncritical allegiance to the existing social order” (Reimain Day 2, p.2). The criminal justice system and its ideas function to prevent people from condemning it and prevent the system from being changed which is why Reiman believes that the system is failing. In…
