Transformational Leadership

This week’s reading assignment was focused on the importance of understanding the nature and purpose of the church, so that one can effectively operate in transformational leadership and managing churches. Transformational leadership is an approach that aims to cause transformation in individuals. It is essential to understand the nature and purpose of the church. There are various views and opinions as to who the church is, what the purpose of the church is, and what the mission of the church is. In particular, the church is viewed from three different aspects: The Church as the People of God, The Church as the Body of Christ, and The Church as the New Humanity (Powers, Kindle p3-5). The Church as the People of God came from the Old Testament when God made a covenant with the people of Israel. As a result, it is believed that we as believers are charged with the responsibility of sharing the Word that can restore the broken relationship between sinful humanity and a just, loving God (Powers, Kindle p4). …show more content…
He emphasized Christ as the head and believers as parts of the body. That is to say that as members of the body, each are given various abilities and gifts that are to be used for the building up of God’s Kingdom. There is great purpose behind such emphasize. The ultimate purpose of Christ being the head and we as believers being members of the body, is unity. The Church as the New Humanity model can be found in the writings of Paul, Ephesians and Galatians. This view is based on the belief that God brought the new humanity into being through the redemptive mission of Jesus Christ (Powers, Kindle p4). All of which is significant when considering what the purpose and mission of the church
