Transformational Leader Self Analysis

The score shocked me a little bit because I did not know there was such thing in me. As a good leader setting the tone for others to follow should be a very simple thing because I know what it requires. As a transformational leader my first step would be focusing my attention in my people, and work hard to help them achieve their goals and dreams. In order for me to help them in such matter I have to know certain things about each one. For example their goals, where would they want to see themselves in the next five or ten years, and how can I assist them to achieve

    1. After reflecting on who or what event provided me with leadership influence I concluded there wasn’t one person or one event that has had the most effect on me to strive to become a better leader or person for that matter. Many of my past supervisors and present alike have been good and bad with more good than bad. I attempt to take pieces from each of their leadership qualities, use things I liked and stayed away from their “bad” leadership qualities I did not believe helped me grow as a leader or produce quality jobs or mission results. Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…

I find that, for me, the personality element within the Right to Lead Model is the most important concept within Module 5, Adaptable Leader. Personality seems to be the most important concept within said model, and the lesson in general, because personality shapes how everything we communicate is perceived by others. This means that every other one of your leadership qualities rely on you having a positive personality in order for you to be effective. Without a well-received personality, even if you are highly skilled in your field and act as a model leader, you will be perceived poorly and everything you do will be tainted. This would cause subordinates, coworkers, and supervisors to avoid dealing with you.…

After being employed for four years as a direct support specialist in a group home, the opportunity to be promoted to team leader presented itself. I cautiously researched the extent of the job tasks, duties, and responsibilities and weighed them to that of my abilities. It took very little time to quickly recognize some areas that would prove to be a challenge for me, as I had very little computer experience and most of the required duties of a team leader were monthly electronic client records and logs. I was also required to be on call for at least one week and one weekend per month.…

Global Leadership was an interesting course, as well as a bit of a revelation. Starting by taking the CQ Assessment, I realized I was not as ‘diverse’ as I thought. As I read the chapters, I found the amount of research behind Global Leadership is needed and beneficial for companies operating globally. Operating cross-culturally takes more than just opening shop in other countries; there are many facets of the culture to take into consideration to be successful. In addition, hiring leadership for these offices is not as simple as putting a warm body in an office.…

Self-leadership and sense of responsibility is one of the attributes of an effective leader. Self-leadership refers to the process of leading one’s own actions and mindset with behavioral and cognitive strategies (Manz, 1986; Manz & Neck, 2004; Neck & Manz, 2010). It includes self-understanding, self-management, self-reflection, self-monitoring, self-cueing and self-talking.
