Being a transcendentalist would make life so much more enjoyable and easier. Well then why doesn’t everyone do it? Henry Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson believed that people should not stray to conformity that people should go out and enjoy nature and it’s beauty. Transcendentalism is the belief that one could understand with god, the universe, the self and everything else that exists in nature. In Emerson’s piece’s Imagination and Nature it shows the importance of nature. Both show nature being portrayed in different ways. Emerson is saying that people are able to pass the information of only seeing the star once every thousand years, like how even though oneself can’t see god we still see him through what he gave the people, such as things like nature. It also shows how many people can stray from free thought and believe what others say rather than listening to their own beliefs, and letting other people not respect their religion. Many believe that Emerson is trying to tell people that nature is something not to take for granted, and without the beauty of nature life would be so dull and without emotion. He at one point says “It is the man's job to find the beauty in nature”(Emerson 220). Emerson’s main point about the importance of nature is to show people that even the smallest things can make a difference. Not everything that is bigger is better, just like how in the text Nature many are only able to see that one star every one in a thousand years. Even though a star may be small it is rather big to see because it rarely ever happens.
