Transactional Leader

As a leader I believe in motivating through a system of rewards and punishment. If a subordinate does what is desired, a reward will follow, and if he/she does not go as per the wishes of the leader, a punishment will follow. So that would make me a Transactional Leader. As a transactional leader I link the goal to rewards, I also clarify expectations, provide necessary resources, set mutually agreed upon goals, and provide various kinds of rewards for successful performance. I tend to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) goals for their subordinates. I had learned that acronym at my previous employer. And was able to use it when I became a supervisor. As a transactional leader I will overemphasize detailed and short-term goals, and standard rules and procedures. They do not make an effort to enhance followers’ creativity and generation of new ideas. This kind of a leadership style may work well where the organizational …show more content…
As a program supervisor my team provided the leadership and support to residential staff to empower our participants in achieving their vision and rehabilitation. I felt in this role that I had obligations not only to the clients but also members of the system. I was able to impalement some of these services. Some individuals were receptive and some others weren’t. It’s hard to have a plan in place when certain individuals don’t care to do anything with their lives.
I had to learn and how to be successful in the case management field. I did not think that I was in the field at first. I thought I was going to be doing office work, setting up meetings, and doing interviews for my workers. Little did I know that when they called out if I could not find a replacement I would have to fill in for them? At that moment that’s when I realized I was a caseworker and had to make an impact on the participants
