Transactional analysis deals with the interactions of individuals. As humans, we were made to communicate with each other whether verbally or non-verbally. According to the Theorist, in communicating people have three ego states: Parent, Child and Adult state. When we communicate, we do so in one of these three states. The Parent state represents an authoritative figure that helps nurture the child and helps to enhance his or her level of communication. Therefore, the child would be advised by their parents on what to do and not to do. For example, instructing them that they should never talk to strangers or look both ways before you cross the streets.
