Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

This course has been very beneficial to my development as a culturally grounded social worker. There were four components that stood out to me. One thing that stood out to me was the article regarding the experiences of Vietnamese refugees. The article painted a great picture of the treatment of those who are from underrepresented populations. The feelings you described were raw and represent feelings of others who might feel uncomfortable with speaking up for themselves when they are treated properly.…

Hi Tarah, this quarter has been fun, but here comes the end. Unluckily, I was not able to enroll in your 39C class for next quarter. Anyhow, I will keep up with my work. Throughout the quarter, I learned to be a good rhetor. Our topic, teen dystopias, was meaningful, even though I did not know about this term, I knew The Hunger Games.…

When I was in elementary and middle school I didn't really have a subject preference. I was just okay at every subject and I couldn't find myself interested in anything particular. I didn't feel lost because I had plenty of time to decide what I wanted for myself that would make me happy. After a certain point in my life though, I have always had a preference for English, a preference that I didn't act on until recently.…

I really enjoyed some of the writing technique essays that we read in class. I usually spend several hours doing just my rough draft. For some reason, I had never considered just doing word throw up on my paper to help develop my ideas. The first draft shouldn’t be the final. My first draft was terrible, because I just wrote whatever came to my mind often not in complete sentences.…

Final Portfolio Cover Letter I have always enjoyed writing so I feel like classes such as these help me more than others. Before I finish college I hope to take some sort of creative writing class as I feel as I haven’t given that opportunity much in recent years amidst constant essays on topic that I do not care about. As a writer I believe my biggest strength is that when I start writing I can keep writing almost until I have run out of things to write about or am interrupted for some reason. I also feel as though I’m very good at writing about things I am passionate about and if I care about a topic you will be able to clearly tell when reading what I wrote.…

This course has improved myself as a writer and has a critical thinker; with the essays that were written I was challenged to ask more questions and see the bigger picture on things and view a subject from all sides. I never wrote an argumentative essay before this course, so this course taught me what it was how to write one and what exactly I was looking for and what I would be able to improve on. I know there is still room for improvement, but taking this course has already made me a better writer from when I started. Writing argumentative essays would help improve many skills as an individual by learning how to approach important issues without taking a side and learning this would also help if a person was trying to prove a point…

My signature assignment revolves around the harmful ideas which sneak their way into advertisement and in result, the mind of the consumer. I decided on this topic by first looking over the list of topics and choosing the one that I thought was interesting and had the most potential for exploration. After deciding on the general topic of advertising I began evaluating what aspect was the most important to our digital age. This lead me to the idea that research about the effects advertising has on our beliefs and behavior was the path I wanted to take.…

The class was very educational and beneficial, I can’t believe we finished the first book that was assigned for the course, it feels like it was yesterday when we start reading the book. “the Pedagogy of the oppressed” is the most amazing book I read so far. If I say little bit about my view of the book, for me it was very hard to understand at first, but very interesting book, it contains more education than u may think when you first read. To get the general idea you have to understand each and every word deeply to connect with this book.…

I have also learned that the spelling and grammar check is your best friend while writing a paper.
