Improved Essays
When I was younger, I did trampoline and tumbling for seven years! Trampoline and tumbling is similar to gymnastics, however, the events were different. The events for trampoline and tumbling are trampoline, rod floor, as well as the double mini. Rod floor is about the width of a bed, and the length of at least 500 feet. In the middle of the floor is a straight line that you are required to stay on. A double mini is similar to vault however, rather than leather, it is a trampoline. I performed best on tumbling, then the double mini. However, I lacked when it came to trampoline. Preliminary Essay Assignment When looking at the novel Trampoline by Robert Gipe and other sources, including our guest speakers, Shannon Elizabeth Bell, Dr. Scott, and some notes that we took in class discussing the local citizens fight for rights against the big coal companies. I see negative stereotypes, such as drug use, the lack of education, and poverty, that are often brought onto the region and Trampoline solidifies these stereotypes throughout the entire book, it adds onto the assumptions people have about those that live in the Appalachian. But I do believe the speakers are showing an act of good citizenship that the novel does not provide, by discussing the laws and rights citizens have fought for to improve there communities.…

Looking at the biological perspective of things can be a big reason not only why she became a gymnast, but why she became such a dedicated and gold medal gymnast. One way of looking at things is with biological perspective. Biological perspective is studying human behavior by studying the brain, nervous system, genetics etc. Using this perspective in Nastia’s case helpful. Nastia’s father Valeri was an Olympian and her mother Anna Kotchneva was a world champion in rhythmic gymnastics therefore we can connect that back to genetics.…

The reading that I will respond this week is “Feminist Media Studies” by Mary Celeste Kearney. The reading focuses on production and promotion of A&E’s Rollergirls, a US docu-soap featuring the Texas Roller Derby Lonestar Rollergirls. It focuses on representation of feminine athleticism in Rollergirls as well as production and promotion elements of the show. The show is basically targeting male audience, since they promote the show as hot babes. It has nothing relate to the show and it focuses on small number of women.…

Although gymnastics isn't considered a race, young elite gymnasts themselves are definitely in one. They're in a race with their own growing bodies and with all aspects of the sport that they dream of conquering to bring home Olympic gold before they expire. The physical and mental deterioration from the pressures of winning are brought on through intense training tactics implemented by coaches, their own parents, and even the governing body of gymnastics worldwide. The International Gymnastics Federation, bored with the classic "perfect 10" scoring system, equipped their regulations in 2006 with a new rule imposing an open ended scoring system in favor of difficulty over artistry, now requiring the gymnasts to fire the most dangerous combination…
