Emily Petty began her experience at New Tech High @ Coppell (NTH@C) uncertain of the success she would have there. She did not know if could succeed in a project based learning school due to her timid nature. Before her time at New Tech she believed her vocal cords were non-existent. Through NTH@C she was able to grow both as a learner and a person within society. Emily had knowledge before her first coming to NTH@C. She knew about the project based learning system since her mother was a teacher in Coppell Independent School District. While she did go to any event before the tour that eighth graders receive in the spring, the tour solidified her choice for NTH@C due to the learning environment and sense of community created from the project based learning system and the diverse learner population. While she did have some hesitation towards groups and project presentations she choose New Tech and began her lasting high school experience. Her plan for the future is to become child’s life specialists and help children that spend long term time within a hospital. While she is enjoying the many new and exciting opportunities that await her, she has not forgotten the bonds she made with fellow learners and facilitators at New Tech and she still keeps in contact with many of them.
