The Effect of a Train Wreck January 6th 2005, Is when the Graniteville train derailment occurred. The crew on train P22 was running late by the time they made it to the plant; they didn’t have enough time to drop off the cargo of sodium hydroxide. The brakeman at the plant was supposed to move a switch so other trains could continue moving straight through town. The brakeman claimed he flipped the switch when he didn’t. The brakeman explained to the investigators “In my mind when I left [the industry track], everything was properly lined back to the main line. I had no doubts in my mind when I left there”. He also stated “I am not 100 percent sure that I did. I would say that I might have made a mistake”. Train 192 made its way through Graniteville at 47 miles per hour. Because the switch wasn’t flipped correctly, train 192 turned onto the wrong track, resulting it to collide into train P22 which was left parked. After the impact …show more content…
The author, Matt Long used words such as “that apparent mistake” and Long also added a list of information not given on the monument or signs around where it occurred. Long seems to feel that the area in which the accident happened needs to have signs with information of the gas that billowed through the air, and more information on how the crash happened. Because the author feels that not enough information has been provided for the town of Graniteville he chose to write an article to inform more people about the subject. I feel as though there is more information about the subject that maybe the author just wasn’t able to find himself. Because of the fact that long decided to say the monument neglected to include certain facts even though it actually did state them and more. Listing the names of the victims could have added more to the article, some readers may be interested in who the people were and their
