Since the dragon is already conditioned stimulus to roar at the smell of onions. The dragon has an unconditioned stimulus to the alarm clock, because he does not know what the object is used for. You need to reward him every time he roars at both the onions and the sound of the alarm clock, this will stimulate him to know that if he roars he will get food. This will create for the dragon something he really enjoys with something he hates. For that reason if you want him to show interest in the alarm clock you need to have some onions at the same time, that way he will create a conditioned response to the alarm clock to something that was unconditioned response. I would have to show him both items that the same time that way he can familiarize to the alarm clock. And after a long time you show him that, just use the alarm clock and see if he catches that he is supposed to roar at the sound of the alarm
