I had a great time volunteering for Trail Tenders at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center. There, I was given the role of preparing administrative work for the second annual Dutch Oven Cook-Off event they had going on. Trail Tenders is an educational group that I had the honor of assisting them in making a community-gathering event successful. Trail Tenders first started in 1987 as an organization originally called the Oregon Trail Preservation Trust. They had a main goal of bringing tourism and education of our heritage to Baker City, which at the time was struggling economically after around 30 companies went out of business in a short period of time. Five years later, on Memorial Day weekend, they held the grand opening of the Oregon …show more content…
At this event, contestants competed to make the best dish with a limited amount of ingredients using dutch ovens in order to win prizes. I took inventory on ingredients and organized supplies, tabulated sponsor donations, helped make advertising handouts, put prizes in envelopes, and laminated signs for ingredient tables and team stations. Another thing that I helped out with was figuring out how to work the announcer equipment. The only person that previously knew how to work it moved away, so I was given the task of figuring out how it worked and if they could hook it up outside. I couldn’t make it to the actual event, but I was told that it was successful, nothing went wrong, and everyone had a great

This semester I participated in a group project in which we worked with a nursing home in San Antonio to provide residents with a social event, as well as donate Kleenex, stuffed animals, and funds towards the purchase of a TV. Before our project objectives were determined, our group set standards and goals for our project, brainstormed project ideas, and contacted various agencies. During these early processes, I feel I contributed fairly and was a team player. I offered ideas for how our group should operate and was receptive to the ideas of others in my group. Furthermore, I helped the group come up with project ideas, and I contacted potential agencies.…

Nowadays, humans are over consuming not only renewable resources, but also non-renewable resources without control. The world has become unsustainable since people’s bad habits are depleting the natural resources much faster than nature can form them, and also government laws are not strict enough to stop industries in degrading the environment by overproducing their products. It is important to create awareness for the future generations by emphasizing how important is to adopt the three high value priorities which are recycle, reduce and reuse to have a sustainable environment and apply them constantly. I based my project on these three values as the main purpose to make a difference in this unsustainable world. I participated in the Columbus Service Day, where volunteers went to different places to help not only the community, but also the environment.…
