As the sunlight breaks through the dense fog, I can see the long trail that will eventually lead me up the mountain. The air was crisp and cool, and the sweet song of the birds chirping danced on my eardrums. The dirt was damp, and the grass was covered in dew. As I ascended up the trail I was interrupted by a dray of chipmunks, so I stopped to observe their journey across the woodland floor. The sun has risen just a little bit higher, and the fog started breaking apart, so I decided to stray of the trail to a small boulder and sat down to bask in the beautiful atmosphere. The area was calm, quiet, and peaceful. After my short break I returned to the trail, the sun was shining through the trees and the light was bouncing off the dew covered grass the reflection caused a array of sparkles …show more content…
As I return to the lush forest I can still faintly hear the creek water moving down. As I got deeper into the forest the sound of the creek slowly disappeared, but only for a few seconds and the then the sound of the creek started to return. Me not knowin that the trail I was following went in somewhat of a rainbow shape and shortly after I have returned to the water so clear that it looked like there is no water there at all. That few only lasted for a few seconds until the path led me back into the forest this time I can see that the trail travel deeper into the forest this time the trees were dense and the sounds were serene and peaceful. The sun was bright and causing an increase in heat and I encountered a split in the the trail the left went along the creek that I could see shining for as far a I could see, then there was a path the led deeper into the lush forest. After contemplating on which path to venture down I decided to follow the lush green forest

On that day I only felt like looking around and staying on the ground for once. The trees were covered in green moss at the bottom. The trees towered over me and made a canopy of leaves with their branches. The further I walked into the forest the more enchanting it became. I had this urge to stay here and never come back, but i fought that urge for I knew what that would do to my family.…

We could always wait until sunrise,” Dominic insisted. He was struggling to zip up his jacket, which was restricted by the heavy coat that he was also wearing. By the time they got done complaining, the rest of us had already left the cabin. We had already discussed this trip the day before: If you change your mind, you better say so early on, because the trail was a long way away from the cabin. While we were walking on the paved road leading up to the trail, it finally dawned on me:…

Looking to your left you notice the tree line thinning out and the thought of curiosity takes over your mind, as your brain wonders as to not what was behind, but asks what lies ahead on this journey. Senses take over and begin to experience the scent of fallen dried up leaves, and the smell of water evaporating off the rocks from the previous rain. Never taking serious notice of the smell, at first it is startling but then breathes begin to become deeper and deeper as your lungs begin to take in the sweet smell of nature something that you can only discover in the mountains. Without out warning, the trail levels out and you are now standing on the hardest rock that at no point under the roughest storm would ever break and give way. As you take a seat on this rock you look out and realize this is the one time you should ever be looking down.…

I looked out over the jagged rocky path we had just labored through, I gazed at the sharp Rocky Mountains in the distance and observed the breathtaking deep blue sky beyond that. Little did I know there was much more to come. We traveled along a narrow path. To the right, a rock wall straight up; sharp and uneven and to the left a steep drop-off with its slippery rocks, it was unforgiving and rickety.…

This scene was different, set apart by the fact it was figuratively right in my backyard. The boulders we had climbed last summer looked like anthills from this far up. I could see for miles each way. Every direction showcased its own landscape. Patches of woodland and farmland were nestled in front of the further mountain ridges.…

Seeing nothing, I searched for the snake on both sides of the tall, scorched golden grass and rocks for approximately thirty seconds until I realized my brother was insane—there was nothing near us. We all decided it would be best just to forget about so we continued up the hill. When we got to the top of the mountain, there was a bench made of various sized slate grey, oval rocks; it was ancient and slowly deteriorating but surprisingly stable. It looked like the Native Americans put it together before Columbus took all their land in 1492. As I assembled myself onto the bench, I admired the opening of the trees that was roughly ten feet wide; I was seeing the world at just the right…

I grew up in a church filled with traditions. One of these traditions was started by our youth pastor’s father: Wilderness Trail. Throughout my elementary years I would hear talk of the annual youth trip up to Virginia, and in sixth grade, I finally had the chance to go. Wilderness Trail is a backpacking ministry located in the town of Troutdale. Each summer, groups come and go on a five day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail.…

The ray of light from the flashlight casts a luminescent glow on the ground, allowing us to keep a watchful eye on where we are stepping. As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. We weave our way through the woods trying to avoid puddles of unfrozen water, and logs that are in the way of the trails we have made. Finally, I spot the…
