Trail Blazer

“What makes someone a trail blazer?” This question was posed to me by my mother when advised to expand my ideas when writing my essay. “What defines a trail blazer?” A trailblazer is defined as a pioneer and innovator. I was astonished to find that a word that is so influential to me would have two unstimulating words as its definition. So, I posed the question to myself “What makes me a trail blazer?”. My thoughts are a trail blazer is someone who creates their own pathway to success, while maintaining enough determination to preserve through self-doubt and pessimistic opinions. Trail blazers are natural born leaders who leave a lasting impression on everyone they encounter. Being a trail blazer, I believe I encompass the characteristics required to be an outstanding candidate for the Keystone Honors Academy.

I believe I am a good candidate to be selected for the Robert Vela High School National Honor Society because I am a dedicated student. My grades do reflect my abilities as a student, but my work ethic in the co-curricular activities that I participate is what really defines it as I put a lot of time and effort into them. In U.I.L. calculator applications, which is the main activity that I partake in, I sacrifice my time almost everyday after school and sometimes my lunch period throughout the school year, as well as the majority of my Saturdays to compete and practice. Not a lot of students would give up this much time and effort unless they are very dedicated. This also reflects my leadership and character as one has to work and communicate…

I think this story idea will interest Huck readers. Along the US-Mexico border, migrants and thru-hikers walk side-by-side but worlds apart. The Pacific Crest Trail attracts two types of people long-distance hikers about to start the journey of a lifetime and northbound migrants seeking better lives in the US. In spring, their paths converge near wooden columns marking the start of the 2,060 -mile journey that traverses the spine of the Sierra Mountains to the Canadian border. Both the thru-hikers and the migrants share a common bond and that's to cross the southernmost section of the PCT safely, while carrying the weight of expectations on their shoulders.…

After my two full years at Roscommon High School, I am very grateful to have reached the standard for National Honor Society membership. This is an opportunity that not everyone has the privilege to be a part of during their high school career. I would like to display the ways in which I have demonstrated the required assets to be a part of this organization. Not only do I possess the qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and service, but through N.H.S., I am certain that I will grow tremendously in each of these areas. The National Honors Society defines what it means to serve the student body as well as the community. As a student athlete in the Sutton school system leadership, service, character and scholarship have impacted my very way of life. Having a persistent attitude is what makes a student shine and as a prospective candidate for NHS I will incorporate this quality into each of the four pillars improving the society as a whole. Three years ago I began the NHS application process though I had little experience in volunteering for the community and lacked the opportunity to develop myself as a leader this changed as my high school career went on. Through athletics and long hours of volunteering with the town's technology department has provided me with numerous opportunities as high school went on.…

Being apart of the National Honor Society would be a great honor for me. Entering high school as a clueless freshman, I had no idea what to expect. The only thing I knew is that being inducted into NHS was a great honor that I would eventually want to achieve. Through these first two years of highschool I have developed many great qualities including the four needed to be chosen; scholarship, leadership, service, and character. In high school I always wanted to play sports and stand out as an athlete in front of the crowd but I soon realized my freshman year that having many academic accomplishments were a great thing to achieve.…

I really liked the article about innovation leaders and learning about the 6 qualities that make them ‘quietly’ stand out. It is so true (and unfortunate) that some of the best innovators and “leaders” are not recognized or talked about in the media as much as political or Hollywood issues. Nonetheless, the article mentions that the “six strands of innovation leaders” include: self-awareness, eclectic experience, mission-driven, synthesizing, story-telling, and business case ready. Of the six, the two that stand out the most to me are eclectic experience and story-telling. In terms of eclectic experience, these leaders are adaptable and don’t follow a singular path or way of thinking.…

WHY I WANT TO JOIN THE HONORS PROGRAM Alighting from a Boeing 747 jetliner on the JFK tarmac on Thursday evening, April 28, 2016, I walked into what could be called a new page in my life story—a new start. Knowing this, I vowed to keep this God given asset alive and growing with all my soul and might, and what better way to do this than to identify with people of like passion, people who will add to me.…
