Who says true love can’t end with a tragedy? Two people, regardless of their differences fall in love changing the way people see them. A tall man with a short lady, an obese women with a skinny man; the possibilities are endless. Individuals from two feuding families may fall in love with each other like in the tragedy of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A Capulet girl and a Montague boy instantly fall in love after seeing each other for the first time twisting the relationship between the two houses. The play continues with scenes filled with fighting, death, suspense, affection, sneaky ideas and plot twists. The characters show similar traits and the actions are taken by them are also related. There are certain characters in each story that match up with one another like a similar puzzle piece that belongs in the big picture. For example, Benvolio is parallel to Baby John. Both characters attempt to keep the peace and try to avoid as much of the fighting; they don’t like violence. Whenever a situation has occurred, the authority relies on these two characters to say what happened because Benvolio and Baby John are both honest. In the first scene of West Side Story, the officer goes to Baby John because he knows that he will tell him everything that happened (West Side Story). The officer does this many times in the musical. Correspondingly, Benvolio tells what has happened and answers all questions of the Prince about how, and who killed Tybalt and Mercutio (Romeo and Juliet). Also, Romeo is a lot like Tony because of their related decisions they make. Romeo is persuaded by Mercutio to go to the feast where he meets the love of his life, and also where he provoked Tybalt which causes fighting later on(Romeo and Juliet). In West Side Story, Riff convinces Tony to go to the dance with the gang. At the dance he meets Maria, but just like Romeo, he provoked Bernardo, when he dances with Maria(West Side Story).
