Within the thirteen to eighteen year old age group, there were many different opinions expressed. Most replied to question four with no, but all had different reasons. Some stated they were mainly influenced by their peers and the internet as they grew older and some stated that as they grew up their parents allowed them to form their own opinions. The thirteen to eighteen year olds responded mostly with answers such as big, strong, masculine and broad when question on what a typical male was, as well as a few comments that they considered males to be an authority figure and a dominant one. One person responded that they believed a man was of ‘average-intelligence’.
When the adolescent age group was questioned what they thought of when ‘typical female’ was mentioned, they responded with mainly beauty related questions. Tall, thin, skinny, ‘barbie-like’, beautiful, pretty, petite and make-up were words mentioned in every filled out questionnaire from this age group. Only few of the responses commented on any form of a woman’s personality, with one person replying ‘moody’ and someone else replying with ‘fake’. The same person who had stated that men were of ‘average-intelligence’ in the question previous had responded that a typical female was smart.
Within the thirty-five and above age group, the male responded with caring and protective for both genders, and the female responded that a typical man is hard-working and looks after his family. The female then stated there is no typical …show more content…
More stress is being placed on adolescent girls to be beautiful with there being a long list of qualities a typical female should possess from the thirteen to eighteen year old age group in question seven. However, more stereotypical qualities of men were written down in regards to what a man’s job and roles within a home and community in question six and ten, showing that even though women still feel very much pressured to change themselves beauty wise, men are still expected to be the main source of authority, the working sex and have a stronger, broader
