One specific skill the I bring to the program that will help on my academic journey is time management. Time Management is a very important skill to have when learning online. I preplan what my week looks like in terms of my life in general and then look at my schoolwork deadlines. By doing this, I am able to plan out when I complete my Read, Attend, Discuss, and Complete sections of my work throughout the week. By planning to complete my work early, this allows for unforeseen roadblocks to removed and worked around to accomplish my work. One skill that I need to develop is eliminating distractions. One negative aspect to online learning is distractions. Distractions can be anything from family in the same room as you when completing your schoolwork, your TV, or even your cell phone. For me, my distractions are all of the above. One thing that I have practiced doing is turning my phone on silent. By turning my phone on silent, I am able to focus on the computer right in front of me versus looking at my phone every time it buzzes. Also, I am practicing completing schoolwork in another room with the door shut to avoid any family member distractions. I do not believe that one is more effective than the other, but do believe that it depends on the individual person 's learning style. When it comes to completing tasks at my job, I believe that I am more effective and work harder when I am multi-tasking. When I am studying and completing schoolwork, I believe that I am more effective when I am focused on one thing at a time. By multi-tasking, one may be able to accomplish more in less time. By focusing on one thing at a time, one may be able to learn more and soak in the information that the individual is learning. Ultimately, it comes down to the individual student and what works best for them. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa. For me to be able to benefit from learning, I must be prepared and organized. I am the type of learner that has to plan out my schoolwork into sections so I can retain the information I am learning. I make a list of what needs to be accomplished that week and then I go through each task at a time. As I complete a section of the schoolwork or task, I check it off my list.
