Taking an online class as opposed to an in person face to face class may seem like the easy way to go. However, is taking an online class hurting you or helping you in the long run? According to a survey done by Allen and Seamen, nationwide online enrollment rates are expanding at a much faster rate than traditional classroom enrollment growth. Online enrollments have grown. 32% of college students are taking online classes. Whereas traditional enrollments have not gone up much. The similarities and differences when it comes to taking a class online or in person face to face are class participation, attendance, and time management. Taking an online class has many positives and negatives. The major issue most students have is the lack …show more content…
You have no set time for your appearance, as opposed to traditional classes. This means you won't get counted absent if you don't do the classroom work at a certain time each day. Also, you can do your work on the go. This is the reason why many students choose online classes over traditional. Doing class work at home online gives some students who struggle a sigh of relief knowing that they don't have to appear in person. The last point to be made about online classes is time management. You have to make time for your online class and put it at the top of your priorities. Make sure to be responsible, set a time each day to put everything else that is going on in your life aside, and devote a few hours out of your day to classwork. In addition to the classwork, homework is an essential component to pass a class. The downside to homework online is that you won't get the feedback as you would by handing in your homework in person to your professor. All in all, online classes in my opinion, have more drawbacks as opposed to traditional …show more content…
Class participation may seem like it's impossible while taking an online class, but just like a traditional class, you are trying to participate to earn college credit hours. Also, you have to make the choice to sign up for classes, whichever one you choose is up to you, but they both show your effort to want to succeed. You are trying to earn a degree, and any student who is taking it upon themselves to earn it is on the right path. The similarities concerning attendance are very easy to identify. You have to take the class no matter what. Which includes having to show up to do the work every single day. Turning in assignments for online or traditional both result in getting graded, but keep in mind that late assignments will get counted off too. Also, you will get counted absent if you don't show up to the class in person, or if you don't complete your work for the day online. Lastly, time management is essential for both traditional and

I do agree with the student and teacher benefits of using the flipped model of instruction that are outlined in the Sprouts video. One of the benefits it noted was that the flipped learning increased learning efficiency. Because students can learn by themselves after class through the materials online and bring questions into the class to discuss with teachers and peers. In the article on Tampa Bay Times, Cynthia Brame indicated that “ What I think makes it effective is, it gives instructors the opportunity to incorporate active learning into their classrooms . . . focusing on the hardest tasks you 're going to ask (students) to do."…

With online school I could schedule my classes around my job in this way it would not have to rearrange my work schedule to fit my classes. However, with a traditional school, I would have to range my work schedule to attend the lectures and classes. This puts online classes at the top my list due to the flexibility of classes. Many of the people said oh well with online classes you will not get the true college experience, but to be quite honest, I was not after the true college experience I simply wanted the degree and the knowledge that came to studying without the distractions and potential annoyances traditional campus life would have…

The assignment must still be completed, but may not be as good as the student may have been able to put together. Students also lack the interactions of their peers in online classes. Their peers can offer assistance with assignments, feedback, tips, and many other helpful means of being able to complete the course. Skilledup.com offers another interesting point that students are not able to have the experience that can be gained only in certain facilities for different areas of concentration (Rauch). By comparing the differences between learning in a traditional classroom versus learning in an online setting, one can determine which learning environment fits their individual learning style. I believe that the biggest difference between learning in a traditional classroom versus learning in an online setting is the physical presence a traditional classroom offers. The physical presence can mean the physical presence of a professor or the physical presence of peers/fellow students. Some students learn best by having the physical presence of a professor sitting next to them and helping them learn or understand something. By having the physical presence of a fellow student, you can lean over and ask follow up questions that you…

You’ll likely be interacting with people in different jobs, age ranges, and maybe even different countries. Exposure to these different perspectives will help you better understand the complexities and challenges that other people face. Plus, since you will be interacting online and in writing, you’ll probably have more chance to actually learn about how your classmates think and view the world. In traditional classes, most of the class is centered on listening to the teacher lecture, leaving less time for interaction between students. Online learning tends to be more collaborative and gives students more chance to read each others ideas via discussion boards and…

When my three oldest go to their school, that leaves me with one to find a babysitter, but then I have to make sure I make it back in time to get them all before their school lets out. With my online courses, I am not having to worry about driving to campus (Chambers, 2016, p. 4). Getting to class would be also hard due to that fact of not having a vehicle at the moment. I would have to not only find a babysitter but a ride there and back. With the online class, I can just sit on my couch pull out my computer and start my work.…

As technology continues to develop and progress, many feel that the benefits of online resources can best be harnessed within classrooms and education; as a result, many feel that education should take a step into the "cyber-world", with physical classrooms being swapped out with virtual, internet classrooms. However, these "cyber-revolutionaries" fail to recognize the impact the intimacy and degree of customization that traditional physical schooling offers: aspects such as social interaction, student/teacher tutoring, and the ability to focus on a particularly difficult subject area are lost in the transition to an online classroom. Ultimately, internet classrooms are inferior to more traditional physical classrooms because they deprive…

In the classroom, you have many things that can help you faster. Such as an instructor/ teacher, other students, and also you can learn from others with the help and different ways of doing and thinking things.
