Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) was developed many thousand of years ago. It is

the oldest health care system in the world. TCM practitioners use a combination of herb

medicine and various practice to treat and prevent a wide range of health conditions.

TCM is a "complex system" that based their belief on "the universe and the natural world

(National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2013). Approximately 80%

of people use herbal component as their primary healthcare, according to World Health

Organization (WHO). However, there is still concern about the "safety and efficacy" of

herbal use. The purpose of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the quality of

service that is delivered through CAM therapies. This paper discusses a wide range of

topics on ancient Chinese medicine using evidence based research on different techniques

and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment with that of Western medicine.

With a history that dates back over 2,500 thousand years, TCM has developed a

unique system to treat and prevent many different health problems. The TCM approach is

different than that of Western medicine. In TCM, the understanding is based on "the

universe and the natural world", and treatment is based on the "diagnosis and
