Whether done in person or through technology, the effects of bullying are similar. Despite the similarities between traditional bullying and cyber-bullying, there are ways in which traditional bullying and cyber-bullying differ. First, with the exception of social bullying, verbal and physical bullying exposes the identity of the bully to the victim. Cyber-bullying allows the perpetrators to hide their identity through anonymous screen names, false identities, unidentified numbers, and through web pages with no creator identified. Being unaware of who is causing the harm can be very daunting for the victims of cyber-bullying, because they are left wondering as to the identity of the perpetrator and may even more helpless in their victimization.
