In this town two hours does not seem like a big deal, but two days just to complete a lottery seems ridiculous. In addition to wasting time, we can take notice that it does not matter the class or age of the people during the lottery. “Mr. Summers called his own name and then stepped forward precisely and selected a slip from the box.” Mr. Summer is not even safe from the lottery. This is an issue because he is the main that runs the coal business and in addition sets up all civic activities. If he so happened to win the lottery they would need to find someone to replace everything he does. Which in turn would also waste time.
