The new student organization in which I am taking a leadership role in is the Sales & Strategy Organization (SSO). The University of Maryland is an incredible educational institute and has provided me and family with opportunities I will forever be grateful for. However, one thing that I have seen, especially with my internship on Wall Street is that many students at large public universities like Maryland often never learn emotional and social intelligence and the value that adds to any career path. Many students do not understand that the real learning occurs outside the classroom through practice and that creating opportunities is a skill.

Inspiring students to show up and retaining those students is one of the biggest challenges that new student organizations face. Programming I would implement would begin with a panel discussion with successful individuals, as well as creating a beginner’s guide to emotional intelligence and relationship building. The value I can add to this programming panel is the individuals I might be able to bring in. One name that comes to mind is Allen Gannett, Founder of TrackMaven. TrackMaven is a predictive marketing analytics software for businesses. Allen started this company at his first job out of college and inspired his then boss to become the first investor. The company has since raised over $21 million in venture funding. Events with guests like Allen will show students the stories and journeys of successful individuals and ideas, and how they utilized relationships and the idea of sales to be successful. This organization can potentially bring together the many different students at the University of Maryland empower them to further succeed in their respective careers and build a stronger
