On a sweaty, sticky night in the Bird's Nest, Bolt was out of the blocks quicker and opened up an unassailable lead over the first 100m before coming away down the straight and jabbing his thumbs at his chest as he crossed the line. His 19.55 seconds was the fastest in the world this year, his speed and peerless championship class too good for American Gatlin, whose 19.74 was well outside his season's best. Jamaican Bolt, who will also compete in the 4x100m relay, said: "It means a lot to me. "I'm happy to be a 10-time World Championships gold medallist, especially when people have been saying I would lose.…
I have been faced with many difficult choices. One difficult choice that striked me the most was having to pick a field hockey club over spring track. When I was confronted with this difficult choice I was very stressed. I decided to play with the field hockey club Black Bear Elite instead of doing spring track. I chose the field hockey club because it is more important to me then track because I have been playing field hockey longer.…
I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…
Before Brayden arrived to pick me up, I worked both of the horses for a hour each. Afterwards, I bushed them and turned them out to the field for the day. They deserved a day off relaxing and grazing under the sun. Before turning them loose to their own devices, I spray them down with fly spray on and slip their fly masks on. Both horses trot around the field before settling down to graze.…
You decide to take a jog you put on your shoes lace them up and head out the door. You take a few stretches and start running throwing your arms in the air pumping her legs and breathing in and out. You as you run with the Lake on your right-hand side the sun beaten on your face. Trying to keep your mind clear of all thoughts you continue this pace for some time you start to sweat breathe heavier and your legs are starting to burn. You realize you ran longer than you thought you actually ran to a supermarket a little supermarket.…
We all have something to be passionate about. Whether it's a sport, a career or a hobby, everyone has that something that they do and love that is deeply woven into our lives. This "thing" is so important that taking this one "thing" away would tear any person apart. My passion, my hunger, my "thing" is running cross country. There has never been a moment wasted on my sport due to its inherent ability to build a person's character and teach the athletes the importance of goal setting.…
My sophomore year of high school, I received an award for Most Improved in cross country. That day I felt on top of the world. As a matter of fact, I felt on top of the world that entire season. I was never athletic, as a matter of fact, before joining Track the year before, I had never ran more than three feet in my entire life. The first day of cross country was an awful start.…
I’m standing and waiting. The wind is gusting and the sun is starting to set. I hear the clink that always makes my adrenaline flow...and I run. Everyone is yelling and as I round the corner I almost lose my footing. I do this in the same spot every time.…
I’m standing at the front door staring at my reflection in the glass “Knock, knock, knock,” “let me out, it’s so cold and lonely in here.” I hear the tiniest whisper of a voice, it’s so faint I can barely hear it. “Let me out of here.” The voice gets louder and more controlling. I look around I am at a loss for words, my blood runs cold my mouth gets dry.…
As our heat was called we all stood up and started to exit the tent. When we got out of the tent we took off our sweats and started to stride out to warm up the legs. Then everyone ran together down to the 50 meter mark and ran back. This was one of the best parts of the meet. The starters then lined all of the runners up on the line and off they went.…
Im running. My chest is tight and sore. Breath rasping and whistling in my lungs. There is a voice shouting. Out load.…
I believe that nothing is hand given, you have to work hard for it. I remember back in freshman year, I was on the track team. My events that I ran were the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. I have also ran the 400 meter dash and the 4x1 relay. While being on this track team, you have to work hard to be put into meets.…
Running is my key to relieving, it's something that meant nothing to me at first and it now my passion. I run not only for myself but for my fallen ones; the loved one I lost throughout my life. My motivation is intrinsic, it all comes from the inside. I run because I feel connected, I feel whole, and most importantly to make all my loved ones proud. My heart has always been on fire, but along the way the flame extinguished.…
The experiences that running and coaching has provided me seem almost limitless and at times, unbelievable. Over the years, I’ve also been privileged enough to have met some of the biggest names in running and coaching. Besides attending the summer Olympics, the World Championships of Track & Field, multiple National Championship events in both cross country and track, I’ve also been fortunate enough to meet Four Boston Marathon winners, Gold Medalists in the 800 meters, 10,000 meters, and marathon, as well as, a 3-time World Champion and former indoor world record holder in the 1500 meters, just to name a few.…
As a kid my parents wanted to me to be involved and find a hobby I truly enjoyed. So I played several sports such as softball, basketball, and cheerleading. At the time I enjoyed them all but wasn’t super into just one of them, I played to be with my friends and have fun. After a while I realized basketball was my sport, maybe because at the time I was a foot taller than most of the other girls, but basketball has stuck with me ever since. As I got older and played basketball at the high school level I realized I loved the sport so much because it is always challenging me.…
