Meeting with my faculty advisor gave me the opportunity to reflect on what I have accomplished thus far and my track one experience. Further, it allowed me the opportunity to identify my expectations and plan for my track two experience. In addition, I was able to look at my timeline for completing my track two experience and practicum. During my annual learner review (ALR) I was also able to identify strategies to use for networking. Finally, the ALR helped me to identify goals in the areas of academic success and program completion; professional identity, fieldwork, and licensure; and self-care and life balance.

Timeline for Completing Track Two and Practicum After talking to my advisor I was able to change my schedule and am scheduled to attend the track two experience in Arizona and complete it in June 2016. This will allow me to start my practicum in October 2016, which works well with my school’s calendar in Hawaii.

During this summer session of ENGL101A, I have learned multiple ways to express myself through my writing. In fact, before signing up for this class, I did not know the proper way to compose an academic essay for a particular audience, and how to properly cite my sources. Nevertheless, after the short summer session, I am able to define my purpose and audience, analyze critically any piece of information, and write with proper citations and fewer grammatical errors with confidence. Through the short time of 5 weeks, I learned how to focus on my audience as well as how to define the purpose of my papers as academically as possible.…

According to Robert Charles Wilson in his book Blind Lake, “Understanding is better than ignorance. Ignorance, unlike life, unlike narrative, is static. Understanding implies a forward motion, thus the possibility of change.” (Wilson, 263) Without understanding something, people would never learn anything. Without learning anything, people would become prideful believing that we know everything, when in reality, nobody knows everything.…

Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…
