It seems like Michael Shannon ripping a tooth out of his head should be the biggest mindfreak of William Friedkin and Tracey Lett's Bug, but it isn't. Peter (Shannon) savagely stabs a man to death, and then convinces Agnes (Ashley Judd) that he killed a robot, not a man. Such hardened denial would already establish that Peter is having a meltdown, but the real revelation here is Agnes' spiral into the abyss of madness. Throughout the film you can see her struggle through mental gymnastics to make Peter's paranoid frenzy seem sane, but the murder she just witnessed breaks her.
