The central portions of the screen are generally used to show the most important visual elements. This area focuses on the center of interest, usually, the character that is talking will be the center of the screen, so the audiences can focus on them.
If an element is in the top portion of the frame, it generally suggests power, authority, and aspiration; think of it as being on the top of a mountain, you feel on top of the world.
The bottom portion of the frame tends to suggest subservience, vulnerability, and powerlessness. Elements placed in the bottom frame demonstrate slowly disappearing from the storyline. Imagine a scene with two characters talking at a table and an ant walking across the table at the bottom of the frame, the ant

Toy Story 3 is about Andy, the boy who owns all the toys, preparing to leave for college. Andy was organizing his belonging to throw away and put in the attic when his toys mistakenly got donated to a day-care center instead of the attic. All the toys except Woody feel abandoned and Woody felt obligated to create a plan to escape and return home to show them that they were not forgotten about. In this frame, Woody is up front and centered while Buzz is in the distance looking at Woody concerned. Woody is centered in this frame because he is the main interest, he also is Andy’s favorite toy in all the Toy Story series. Buzz is Andy’s second favorite toy, so this frame focuses on the important toy/character. This frame shows Woody lifting a picture on a bullet board to view an old pic under of Andy and his toys. Woody is reminiscing the days when Andy used to play with his toy and Buzz comforts Woody by saying “well whatever happens, at least we’ll all be together.” Also, in the background on the right of the wall, there is a pennant for PU, a university that Andy is most likely going to. The pendant has been shown in every Toy Story series, therefore, Toy Story 3 is about Andy going off to college and viewer thought this was going to be the last Toy Story movie, however, there will be a Toy Story 4 in

Traces of religious messages can be found just about everywhere in life. Sometimes it requires a finely tuned ear to fully grasp or understand them; however, this is not the case with The Muppet Christmas Carol. There are explicit references and plot lines that directly relate to biblical themes. Two very prominent themes in this movie that can be found in all four New Testament Gospels are: help those in need when possible (stewardship), and forgiveness. Stewardship is seen when Scrooge is urged not only to donate money to those in need, but even in the scene when Kermit asks him for a just extra shovel of coal on the fire to offset the coldness in the shop.…

Molly Bang Paper When thinking of this assignment, I immediately knew which book I was going to choose. I felt that choosing a favorite book from my childhood could be a fun way to see the differences in how I viewed it then, and how I might view it today. As a child, I was in love with Mercer Mayer’s “Little Critter” books (and still am today). I decided not to go searching for an easy or popular book, rather I wanted to take one I know and love and see if/how Molly Bang’s principles were applied.…

What does an album cover do? Music itself is not visual, only sound that often times is paired with visuals. This is because together, a visual and a sound, enhance the effectiveness of the piece as a whole. An example of this would be in a movie when a dramatic scene is shown, a dramatic song will be played with it to enhance the scenes effectiveness. Album covers utilize this unique fusion of mediums in a similar way to make the album more marketable, and to create a visual effect on the music making the content more enjoyable.…

Pages 305-307 → Film The day was fading into a soft sun-shot haze, pricked here and there by a yellow electric light, and passers were rare in the little square into which they had turned. Dallas stopped again, and looked up. "It must be here," he said, slipping his arm through his father 's with a movement from which Archer 's shyness did not shrink; and they stood together looking up at the house. It was a modern building, without distinctive character, but many-windowed, and pleasantly balconied up its wide cream-coloured front. On one of the upper balconies, which hung well above the rounded tops of the horse-chestnuts in the square, the awnings were still lowered, as though the sun had just left it.…

Through three separate panels of a collage styled piece of art, Theodore A. Harris brings the viewers’ attention to the injustices in America’s society. Can These Bones Live, created in 2008 by Harris, tells a story. Although the three panels are independent from one another, they are not disconnected by any means. One can notice this through the repetition of the unstable composition, same figures, and ink drippings in his work of art. An analysis of Can These Bones Live reveals that the integration of these components gives the viewer feelings of apprehension and melancholy.…

The girl might learn that it is expected to use artificial products to be considered pretty 6. I believe that these toys for boys and girls are important to children’s socialization because they are teaching them what to except society wants in the future. When children cannot communicate verbally, toys become a great tool for planting seeds of how society wants them to function as a part of society. These toys enforce what societies views of how they should be brought up. For example, when a young boy gets hurt, society says not to cry and walk it off.…

When analysing the placement of characters in the film we must acknowledge both the physical placement of the characters in a particular shot or sequence and the placement of a character in the plot or story of the film. While similar in title, the two concepts have drastically different interpretations and uses when analyzing elements of a film. The placement of a character in a shot is the character’s specific placement in front of the camera during a shot or sequence. This concept is analysed for any symbolism or subtextual meaning in the film. However, the placement of a character in the plot or story of the film is where that character fits in the narrative portion of the film and can be observed to analyze the importance of particular characters’ roles in a…

One major technique used is the stage directions, which in turn acts as a form of narrative voice. It helps in characterization and it also helps the readers to understand more about the characters in the play. (Harold, 2008). Stage directions are used in helping the reader understand the historical background that one may be lacking while entering or viewing the drama in its midst. An example of the importance of this technique is seen in Act 1; the stage direction helps in establishing the emotional climate and also the social culture of the Salem.…

Gender and representation In Marleen Gorris’s ‘A Question of Silence’ During the mid 1970s and into the early 1980’s, feminists critiqued ideologies and the system of beliefs in the patriarchal society. Feminist filmmaking became key to portraying fairer representations of women in film denied to them in Early Hollywood, whilst also using experimental techniques to give authorial voice to women filmmakers. Marleen Gorris’s Dutch film ‘A Question of Silence’ (1982), is considered one of the fundamental films in early feminist filmmaking.
