Toy Story 2 deals with the crises of ‘trust versus mistrust’, primarily occurring between birth and one year of age, and is considered to be the most fundamental stage (Cherry, 2016). At the half-way point of the film, Stinky Pete implies that “[Jessie’s] been through more than you know” relating to Jessie’s life which has caused her to become suddenly distant, emotional and distraught. Before the commencement of the film, the viewer is informed that Jessie was given away and abandoned by her previous owner, Emily. As Emily becomes more mature, she subsequently lost interest in her ‘old toys’ and therefore, outgrew Jessie.
