Sensorimotor (birth to 2 years)

1.Identify the toy/game/activity and the manufacturer’s information

The toy to develop the child’s cognitive skills during the Sensorimotor stage would be a rattle. The child would take the rattle and shake it to make different noises. This would keep the child entertained for a long time because there are lots of colours and different sounds when you shake it. In addition, there is a textured handle which makes the handle easy for the children to grasp. The manufacturer for this is Bright Starts.

2. What stage of Piaget’s theory does it address?

The rattle addresses the Sensorimotor stage which is when the child is approximately 6 months to 2 years. This is when the child experiences the world through senses and actions by touching, looking and mouthing. In addition, the baby will learn to understand object permanence around the 7 month mark. Lastly, they will understand some symbols and language begins.

3. Is your toy targeted to a specific gender?

No, the toy isn’t targeted for a specific gender. Both boys and girls can use the rattle. There are pictures of boys and girls using the rattle. It will help the cognitive
