In the CNN article “How Tap Water Became Toxic in Flint, Michigan”, by Sara Ganim and Linh Tran, the write about how water became infected with lead in Flint, Michigan. In 2014, the city of Flint, Michigan, decided to cut the water supply of the city from Lake Huron to The
Flint River. The city did this in order for the state to build a new supply line from the lake. When the water started coming in from the river, residents reported that it looked brown. It was discovered that the state DEQ wasn’t treating the water with an anti corrosive agent, and since the water from the river is 19 times dirtier than the water of the lake, the water corroded the metal of the pipes, putting it in the water. Since pipes in flint are made of lead, lead started

What started all of this is the state wanting to cut the budget of the city at any cost. The first bad decision they made was changing the city’s water supply from Lake Huron to The River
Flint. Flint was in a state of financial emergency at the time, and they did this in order to save funds. Lake Huron’s water is much more pure than the Flint river’s, because the Flint River is contaminated by industrial waste, making the quality of water much worse.
Another thing that puts them at fault is the fact that they didn’t add the anticorrosive agent to the water. This made the water corrode the metal, putting large amounts of lead into the water supply. This was probably an oversight, but it could’ve been that the DEQ thought they could get away with saving funds by not using the agent, which would cost $100 a day. This whole incident could have been prevented if the state government wouldn’t have been so stingy with the water in flint.
What really grew the damage of this situation was the fact that the government denied the water being unclean, and then continued to lie to the people. First it was the state denying

They lied to people in order for them to not see that the government was at fault. They even attacked those claims, and once they saw that they couldn’t win the fight, they admitted the research was right.
After Flint was declared to be in a financial state of emergency, the state government made all of the monetary decisions of the city, not the mayor. This make sense because the state doesn't care about the local issues, but were more determined in cutting down the budget. This probably lead to the start of this crisis. Flint being a small and poor town didn't help it either. The state took control of the budget, not caring about the local population, and they were the ones that made the switch of water supply to the Flint River. They also didn't care about the city because it wasn't a big city like Detroit, so they just did anything to reduce cost.
This whole water crisis could have been easily avoidable. The state wanting to do anything to cut down the budget of Flint was the thing that led to this dilemma. Switching the water supply to the Flint River, and not adding the anti corrosive was the main reason the water got contaminated with lead. There is no one but the state government to blame for this

The public, local elected officials, Michigan’s Department of Environmental Equality, and the Environmental Protection Agency were not involved in the project. They should have been overseeing the change to ensure that mistakes were not made and that the city manager’s idea would benefit, and not harm, the residents of Flint. Third, the government was not open and honest with the people as it carried out this project. Fourth, the government failed to attempt to improve the economy in Flint. The struggling economy was the primary reason the water source was being changed, as officials were attempting to save money.…

My article is about the Flint water crisis and how people still can’t drink the water there. Three years ago Flint leaders decided to switch the city's water source to Lake Huron. Lake Huron is a heavily polluted Lake that many businesses dump waste into. The city’s leaders decided to change the water source because the city went bankrupt and the leaders wanted to save money. The water change was only supposed to be temporary and save the city five million dollars.…

Prior to the 1980’s and environmental laws and concerns, it was a standard unwritten procedure to dump waste on the ground, rivers, streams and oceans. Unsuitable boxes, containers and storage units for keeping waste were inadequate and often toxic substances were left out unsecured. These practices were happening destructively everywhere in the environment and thousands of contaminated sites were created. Contaminated sites often included warehouses, landfills, processing plants and manufacturing sites. The superfund program in 1980 was imposed by congress to clean up these contaminated sites based upon health concerns of the people, environmental risks and possible ecosystem destruction.…

Starting at the beginning, Flint is a fairly poor city. They decided to stop buying from Detroit and start buying from a new pipeline (Karegnondi Water Project). This was done in order to save more money. Detroit stopped providing them with water before they could get the other pipeline, so they started using Flint River’s water as a temporary source. While that was happening, Michigan legislature adopted a law that gave an emergency consultant the power to overrule anyone else in the court.…

What he decided to do was poison the people in Flint which is a crime to humanity. People are getting sick off of this and it is all because of one person. The mayor declared a man made state of emergency all because of Snyder’s decision which shows how serious this situation is. I believe Governor Snyder should be impeached because of this or he should serve jail time for the people he poisoned. He deserves the absolute worst because that is what he is giving to the people in Flint, the worst drinking water there is to drink.…

The situations played role in the film is the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, where citizens use to drink, cook, and bath in lead contaminated water. It seems to me that the main purpose to switch the city’s water supply from Detroit River to the highly polluted Flint River is economic factors to save $5 million to the city. Flint River water is very corrosive to lead that causing lead contamination in homes. In addition, Flint River has major corrosion on supply pipes that leaching lead into water before flowing into residential home across the city. I believed that lead effects both in human and animal population.…

The change in water supply was not a decision made by the Flint people. Throughout America, we, as law-abiding citizens, allow decisions to be made for us every day. We supposedly under the 15th Amendment have the right to vote. The people of Flint had no say in the decision that no one knew would affect them for the rest of their lives. “The switch has been described as an effort to save money, but Flint’s water system hadn’t been a drain on the budget.…

The Flint water crisis is a drinking water contamination issue in Flint, Michigan that started in April, 2014. These past 3 years have been an extremely hard time for Flint residents since they have had no proper drinking or bathing water in 2 years, so residents have been taking a stand against the government by carrying around jugs full of dirty, unsafe drinking water coming from their faucets at home to protest against the inaction of the government. The residents have a lot of courage to be standing up to what they think is right and fighting for those rights, much like the “Freedom Riders” in the movie “The Butler”. In 2014, Flint, Michigan decided to switch their water source to the Flint River from Lake Huron because of them spiraling…

As most of America is aware of by now, there is a grave injustice happening in Flint, Michigan. The city’s drinking water is heavily contaminated with lead and has been since 2014. The problem began when the city of Flint switched to using the Flint River as a source of drinking water. A month after the switch was made, residents began to “complain about the smell and color of the new water, which [was] 70 percent harder than its previous water source” (Kennedy, 2016).
