Town Hall Meeting

As the newly appointed superintendent of the school system, I would like to thank everyone for attending this town hall meeting, your warm welcomes and making me feel at home. Today’s topic will be, “The future of Technology in the County Schools.” As the newly appointed superintendent I know that my responsibilities for this school district will include hiring the best teachers, firing teachers that’s not fulfilling their obligations, calculating every school’s budget and bringing fresh new ideas to the school’s district. In this district, I promise to enforce all of the federal statutes and state regulations for programs implemented in schools. Everyone in this meeting is aware that technology is everywhere. Those of you that have children realize that this generation depends heavily on technology. Students are spending more time on Snap Chat, Instagram and Facebook then actually reading a book. Also, students are using their eBooks, IPad, laptops and cell phones more than desktops. Cell phones and text messaging have allowed students to text back and forth between each other, conferring through the airwaves on exam questions. Due to the latest technologies, teachers need to change the way they assess students in order to uphold academic integrity. I want to introduce teachers to using technology for practical purposes while helping students capitalize on their creativity and individual uniqueness. Using technology for some practical purpose, and not for the sake of using technology, must be the clear objective. New technology learners are exposed at an early age. It’s important for teachers not to focus on integrating technology too much instead of focusing on learning in the classroom environment. To help teachers integrate technology more effectively into their teaching, professional development around educational technology should be a higher priority for schools and districts, and it needs to be ongoing and collaborative. Professional development on educational technology should focus on what students need to learn, rather than on how to use a specific device. I will create standards that will met the needs of every school in the district to establish infrastructure of learning new technology inside the classroom. Introducing new technology ideas take effort from the board of education, administrators and faculty members to surpass the standards expectation of educational.
