Town Council Debate

Improved Essays
In my opinion, there a lot of different aspects voters need to know about when voting for any seat, whether it be town council, mayor or President of the United States. There are hundreds of ideas and values that need to be addressed and in no way can they be addressed in one instance. Using these debates to inform the public about their views on popular issues such as abortion and torture is understandable, and I believe having multiple debates to discuss these matters are important. However, having debates to roast each other is a waist of time and does not help the public chose a president, in my opinion. Donald Trump spent a lot of time pointing fingers at Marco Rubio. This to me is a waste of valuable time. In short, the candidates are holding the right amount of debates, but some are not utilizing their time wisely and this may add to the number of debates that will be had, because no one is getting their points across.
I feel that no matter the formatting of the debate the same information and behavior would result. Like Governor Chris Christie said, Mr. Rubio already had his speech lined up no matter the statement made before. Christie said,” There it is.

Of course the information presented is important, but when the candidates spend their time pointing fingers, it takes away from what they really believe. For example, Bernie Sanders and Hilary Clinton spent a lot of time talking about President Obama. I find this unproductive because the voters don’t want to know if they think the president is progressive or not, they want to know what the candidate is going to do to help the Americans and the united states. Overall, the debates are key to show the voters who the candidates are and what they believe. The way the candidates utilize their time is valuable and if they continue to argue like children they will have more pointless debates in the

In the article “Excerpts from the Hourlong Debate of the Democratic Candidates for Mayor” Green mention racial profiling it is illegal under the federal law and the most ideal approach to do stop and frisk is by making rules when a police officer question a person in public place. On the other hand, Hevesi argue that during in 1994 to 1995 police disregard those rules and they were permitted to profile. Also he mention that people were stop and frisk despite the fact there is no crime and connection with the victims. Vallone argue that he is not going to suspend stop and frisk, but only can be done when the officers have probable cause or reasonable suspicious of a person who commit a crime, is committing or is about to commit a crime. The definition of debate is “argue about (a subject), especially in a formal manner” which in the case of the last GOP debate, they were arguing and undermining each other in a manner that was far from “formal”. In accordance to Ceaser’s ideas, this is a sign of overly ambitious candidates which are only seeking temporary advantage. Also, it nearly proves that they are only making impulsive statements to make themselves look better than the other candidate which, again, leads to temporary advantage. It seems that the four major functions of elections are diminishing as elections go by and people are completely unaware of it. Demagogic candidates also make promises that they cannot keep which people believe and are driven to vote for that certain candidate and this can be very harmful in the long run.…

    Rubio's Stereotypes

He stood there on the stage, facing attacks from all sides, as the front-runner in New Hampshire avoided nearly all critiques. This was not supposed to happen—just days earlier, Sen. Marco Rubio had succeeded in spinning his third-place finish in Iowa as a win, but he now began to sweat as all of his weaknesses were exploited by his opponents. In a particularly painful exchange, Rubio repeated (almost) the same line (“This notion that Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing is just not true. He knows exactly what he's doing.”) four times in just a couple of minutes.…

Politics is a part of human nature, an unavoidable part. Even though this is a common characteristic among all human beings, how politics are ran differs among each population. This population could be an entire country or that of a small county in Wisconsin, I attended a Waukesha County Town Hall meeting. I learned a lot from this meeting, but what this meeting specifically taught me about American politics was that there is a severe lack of diversity in those who represent us and also those who participate in public forums. Along with the lack of diversity, there was an alarmingly large sense of ignorance in the council members participating in the debate.…

The Vice Presidential debate that occurred on October 4th 2016 was important to people across the united states. It is clear that many citizens are undecided on who to vote for, the point of this debate was to give clarity to voters and to reassure the American people of their views. I was hoping this debate would be better than the presidential debate however it seemed to be the same; Tim Kaine interrupting and Mike Pence constantly being on the defense. Despite the interruptions both candidates made a few good points that are essential to consider when making a decision. Both sides made strong arguments.…

The second presidential debate was at the Washington University in St. Louis. The moderators for the debate were CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC’s Martha Raddatz. The debate was divided into six 15 minute segments, with topics about immigration, national security, health care and many more. In the beginning of the debate a member from the audience asked each candidate if “they feel that they are modeling appropriate and positive behavior for today’s youth, knowing that educators assign viewing the presidential debates as student’s homework?” Each candidate completely ignored the question and went off topic.…

Election years in the United States remind many citizens that they live in a country with a political system that allows them to vote for people that will represent them and their wishes up in Washington. Many of the issues that become the target of debate can stem from dissatisfaction with the current regime, issues that have yet to have been answered, as well as whatever else is a hot topic at the time. One election season might have the turbulent geopolitical issues of the Middle East be the hot topic while the next season might have the talk shift to a domestic issue like gun control. Due to the presence of only two major political parties in America, many of the issues, candidates, and positions get diluted into binary choices that in…

My wonder is about the Vice Presidential Debate that took place on October 4th, 2016. The Republican vice presidential candidate is Mike Pence and the Democratic vice presidential candidate is Tim Kaine. During the debate, Tim Kaine was reported to interrupt Mike Pence as well as the female moderator, Elaine Quijano, more than seventy times in total. Additionally, Kaine not only interrupted Pence and Quijano, but he also ignored their comments I chose this wonder because a typical person in a debate uses the listening behavior “ambushing”, or listening to others speak in order to attack them. However, I feel like Kaine uses the listening behavior “stage hogging”, or interrupting the speaker in order to turn the conversation to himself.…

The Lincoln-Douglas style of debate is one of the most commonly used formats in competitive or professional debate due to its simple structure and adequately long sections for each speech. It originated during 1858 with late President Abraham Lincoln and late Senator Stephen Douglas[1]. Nevertheless, this particular style is very popular in competitive debate. Like all debates, the LD debaters will be given a statement or prompt and whether they will be the affirmative or negative side. The affirmative side will agree with the statement while the negative will disagree.…

Summary In the upcoming debates, a former first lady and secretary of state will face off against a billionaire real estate mogul who has never held any sort of office before but instead has recently been a reality show host. Contrary to belief, the election is not as one-sided as once perceived, in fact, the race is closer than ever at this moment. Shortly after the democratic national convention, markets gave Donald Trump as little as a 20% chance of becoming the next president. Furthermore, he may have gone too far after attacking the parents of an American Muslim soldier who was killed in Iraq.…
