Stereotypes are the results of past experiences and media that is not derived from the foreign culture itself. They are assumptions made of a cultural often by another cultural that does not fully understand the culture in question. Negative stereotypes especially can lead tourist to interact incorrectly with people of a foreign country or make offensive assumptions about their culture. Stereotypes can often be dangerous for a foreign country. Stereotypes, especially negative ones assume that all persons in a cultural are dangerous in some way. This can lead to hostile tourist interactions. Tourist who embrace negative stereotypes will have social interactions that embrace a us vs them mentality, this a lead to patronizing, degrading, and hurtful interactions with a foreign people. On the foreign side, discovering these stereotypes can lead to the development of negative stereotypes about tourist, this can lead to interactions that are aggressive and destructive. The attitudes and behaviors of foreigners toward tourist can turn sour as a result.
In a more general sense stereotypes hinder a person’s ability to modify and adapt to new information presented to them about a different culture. Stereotypes can make both tourist and foreign cultures feel unsafe and threatened when around each other. Ultimately this effects
