What describes the interaction and integration among people, governments, and nations better than people going all around the world and interacting with others? Due to the fact that tourism goes hand and hand with globalization, our carbon footprint is left all over the world. The more globalized tourism is; the more places are impacted by the negative effects of it. Some people may wonder how big the tourism industry is, well, “It wasn’t until the end of the 20th century that tourism was added to the list of industries added in the U.S. gross domestic product. And the results were a revelation: about $1.2 trillion of the $13 trillion U.S. economy is derived from tourism” (E&Z Reader 245). So in simple terms, tourism is not only a major player in globalization, but also in economic globalization. Due to the role tourism plays in economic globalization, some places seem to ignore the hazards that come along with it. For example, let’s say we have an area along the coast that is struggling economically, but since they are along the coast they have been asked to be a location where cruise ships come and dock. At first glance, this seems like a favorable deal for the struggling area along the coast. They allow some cruise ships to dock, people get off and check out the area, maybe stop at some local business’ or restaurants, and they start to see an economic
