Imagine yourself in the past with no one, or on an island in the middle of nowhere. This is how the characters of Touching Spirit Bear and The Devil’s Arithmetic felt. Alone with nowhere to go, but they were alike and different. The main characters both have relatable conflicts but also structural differences.

Similarly, the books Touching Spirit Bear and The Devil’s Arithmetic both have a narrator's Point- of - view and it’s effect on the plot, theme. These literary elements make a true impact that is sure to want to make you read more. Many of these example are found in the theme. Now the theme in Touching Spirit Bear is about how to overcome fear and anger. Also the Devil’s Arithmetic is about how to remember the past and learn to fight.
