Totalitarianism government works only towards the leader of the government, and how that leader believes the country should be ran. This takes away any rights and freedoms of the single individual people within it. Leaders of totalitarianism take pride in the country and fear any type of rebellion or disagreement. Therefore, the rights are taken away and punishment is harshly given to anyone that steps out of line. The very serious and powerful leaders do not care about anyone or anything except the security of the power which was given or taken. All people living in Italy were highly expected to listen and follow every word Mussolini said. There were no oppositions to anything that Mussolini thought, even if the dictators mind changed, the people were forced to believe the same thing. The Black Shirts would "take care" of anyone that had opinions that were not reflected as Mussolini's. A very careless person named Matteotti openly discussed hatred and how Mussolini was wrong and the beliefs forced were bad. Matteotti was murdered by the Black Shirts and most likely this was directed by Mussolini. Mercy was not something offered by these people, as their motto was a saying that inappropriately translated to not caring at all. Anytime someone did not agree with Mussolini, but had not been a threat, actions were taken such as violently forcing one to eat live animals. This would scare a person to keep opinions and thoughts in one's own mind. Mussolini ironically wanted peace, but would inflict pain to achieve it. Also under Mussolini's dictatorship, death as a punishment for crimes would be introduced again. Mussolini cared about children mostly because the children would grow into soldiers that could serve, so education was highly invested in. Mussolini expected young boys to be taught to be great soldiers and girls were taught to be respectful, successful mothers. Mussolini potentially brainwashed children to believe fighting and acting out is natural for boys and being mothers and giving birth is natural for women as well. Women were required to have as many children as possible and the most boys as possible. The goal was to increase Italy's population in any way possible.
