Total Quality Management Theory In The Criminal Justice System

Through my Criminal Justice Administration: Police Administration class, I learned about the “Total quality management” theory and I believe this concept matches well enough with what I learn in my internship experience. Total quality management is a contemporary theory that integrates organization and management. This theory has three elements. The first element involves culture while the second element involves customers. The third element is counting. All of these three elements relate to the victim assistance program. The program has many different types of victims with many different backgrounds. For example, I must be aware that victims who are undocumented or newly immigrated may not comprehend the criminal justice process. In addition, this may affect their cooperation and involvement in Criminal Justice System. Another example, in the Orthodox Jewish culture it is crucial to learn about the religious holidays, especially if my case is going through the Criminal Justice System. If the prosecutor is not aware, then I need to educate them on my victim’s demand which is essential to know as it should affect the scheduling of the next court hearing. I also need it to be prepared and developed resources to access translation services in the languages that are represented within the community. In Los Angeles, since there are so many different cultures, I may not learn all of them so it was important to build up my skills. Every individual that I meet was unique and how they react to their victimization coupled with their cultural influences end up be uniquely different.
