They passed the Indian Reorganization act to have the tribes run a government just like the National government. I would be in support for tort reform. To me, it points out that most injuries are not the result of substandard care, yet somehow, the needs of people injured need to be addressed without alleging that the physician was negligent The physician is willing to take the risk of helping the patient. Both the patient and the physician should be protected. I do believe caps on pain and suffering are necessary, although in and of themselves, they do not guarantee that the cost of malpractice insurance for physicians will go down. To me, it is one of the steps that need to be taken.…

Battery is defined as an illegal touching of another person. This can be as small as grabbing someone’s shoulder or wrist all the way up to imposing serious harm on another person. If you are involved in an argument that becomes physical and the other person punches you in the face, this is considered an “intentional tort.” In all situations in a pharmacy, you should make sure that you never, ever touch a customer in any way. This country has become so “sue happy” and our courts are full of frivolous lawsuits that the people who really need the help and have a viable case cannot get any legal team to take their case.…

The progressives consisted of a group of people who were dedicated to reforming the United States in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The era was termed as progressivism and was meant to respond to the economic and social issues emanating from industrialization within America. As stated by Robert Higgs, the period was a “Bridge to Recent Times.” This is because approaches toward proper government roles were moving from the partial kind favored during the 19th century to the expounded ones preferred in the 20th century (Buenker 43). The huge changes resulting from industrialization like railroads, large corporations, and corruption in politics stimulated progressivism.…
There is a common belief in America today that most lawsuits are just another ploy for the greedy to make money. People have lost sight of the good that our judicial system does for us and what a gift it is to be allowed to sue for any reason and anytime. Yes, it is true that people abuse that power but as George Lakoff, a professor of Neurolinguistics at UC Berkeley, said “Suing is heroic… when you win a case you win it for other people as well as gaining justice for yourself” (Hot Coffee). On February 27, 1992, a seventy-nine-year-old woman named Stella Liebeck was in the passenger seat of her grandson’s car when she ordered a cup of coffee at the drive through of a McDonald’s Albuquerque, New Mexico.…
Tort reform is limiting the amount of punitive damages that can be recovered in a tort case making it harder for the plaintiff to have a case. Those against tort reform want no limit on the amount that can be recovered. I am against tort reform and believe there should be no limit on the damages that can be recovered. One of the goals of tort reform is to limit the amount of lawsuits that qualify to save the courts money. Some people in society believe the courts should hear more important cases.…
INTRODUCTION The causes of mass incarceration, a term used to describe rapid the growth of the United States’ imprisoned population from the early 1970’s until the present day, have been a topic of great debate in recent times. The National Research Council reports that the United States’ penal population of approximately 2.2 million adults, at a rate of 716 prisoners per 100,000 citizens, is the largest in the world. This is an astounding increase from the early 1970s where the rate of imprisonment excluding jails was approximately 110 prisoners per 100,000 citizens. Detailed research analyses of the events between the early 1970s to the present day make it clear that social and political ideas and movements including changes in policy making,…
Pressing for Prison Reform The prison system is just as corrupt as the prisoners inside them. We live in a world where it is deemed acceptable to punish a criminal by taking away their humanity, and only release them when they find it themselves. We must reform the flawed prison system; only then can we correct the criminal way of life. Today, it is not uncommon to hear intrusive and abhorrent events that happen behind bars, including excessive violence, sexual harassment, health violations, and misconduct of legal power.…
