Tori Devins: A Narrative Fiction

Why did she agree to go on this trip with her friends? Instead they wanted to drink all night in the motel room while she wanted some sleep. Tori Devins flipped her hair over her shoulder and tapped her foot in front of the dingy motel. She knew it was wrong for her to leave but she could not stand to be in that room a second longer. All she needed to was to find a way to occupy her time until they fell asleep.

There stood in front of her was a dimly light gas station across the street. A few moments to browse some generic candy and off brand cured meat. Dust kicked up under her shoes as she crossed the deserted road. The blinking light gave the illusion that it could have been open but the locked doors said otherwise. Tori looked around

“Yeah … goodnight sirs” Tori said and crossed the street back to the motel.

Although it would have been simple to go back to the room she could not bring herself to do so. Her stomach grumbled and she knew she could have asked the elderly men for another spot to get food. The motel manager already had disappointed her with busted vending machines. Tori let out a groan and her head shot up when she heard a twig snap.

“Hello? Is someone there?” She called out and looked around the dark desolate area.

Wind whipped around her hair as she heard the sound again. She noticed a pond across from her and an old barn with high grasses on the side. Doors slammed open and close from the violent wind. A light dimmed the barn from where she could see and she went towards it. From her view she could view a silhouette walk into the barn. She peered in the doorway and saw a man’s figure stand near a fire with a shovel and then threw something into it.

“Excuse me I am looking for some place to get food. Would you happen to know where I could go?” She asked and walked into the barn. The figure turned to her with a glare look and threw the shovel onto the

He raised the axe above his head and stabbed her in the back. She fell to the concrete with a loud hard thump and cracked her jaw in the process. Gasps mewed from her lips but her ability to scream has been taken away. Blood oozed from her lips and gagged on the taste of burnt flesh. Tori tried to crawl but her body had begun to collapse with pain. He grabbed a metal linked chain and grabbed her by the legs as she tried to crawl away. Her fingernails cracked as she clawed herself away from his grip.

“How could you?” She cried as he tied the chain around her legs and levitated her into the air.

She swung back and forth crying tears knowing he was going to kill her right there.

“Please don’t” She begged as he gripped the axe.

A swift swing and her head snapped back in a nasty crack. Her gags quickened and she tried to escape and he swung again. Her head dangled onto the neck and he swung one last time. Blood squirted across the ground as her head rolled towards the fire. He drops the axe next to the headless body and wipes his hand onto the pants. He reached for a bucket of water and let the flames go out with a hiss before he left the barn with no

Thus did the god Dionysus take revenge on one who had scoffed at his sacred rites. Though the story of Pentheus seemed to come to an end, the story of Pentheus and the people of Thebes had only just begun. Sandy Scroll awoke to the sound of rusted bells – not so much a chime as a series of dull, metallic thunks in the distance – and was greeted by the familiar scents of dust and ash and centuries-old paper. She rubbed a beige hoof against her aching temple and shivered at the frigid draft that blew through the window in front of her. The fire on her hearth must have died while she had slept, and it had been ages since this town had produced glass with which to ward off the winter winds. Sand lifted her head from her desk and glanced outside. It was dawn, or perhaps dusk, just as it had been for every hour of every day for as long as anypony could remember.…

Key to the Cornerstone Gusty winds snaked across the sandy African landscape, bursting drafts of gritty heat upon the cracked ground below. Draughts weaved through the clay houses barren and lifeless with not a soul to be seen. The village had been deserted. Tousled door flaps snapped and wagged in the perturbation.…
