Growing up in today’s society it’s a challenge for both parents and children. This causes tension and misunderstanding in their relationship. Childhood is meant to be delightful, it is a time where children are full of life and innocence. However, there are things that alter a child’s joy such as society and issues regarding family. Tori Amos is an American singer-songwriter that was born in 1963. In 2014, Amos and her daughter Natashya Hawley sung a duet called Promise. This song relates to childhood and growing up because it speaks about the bond a mother and a daughter have, how they both are going to be with each other through thick and thin. Moreover, how their love for each other is unconditional.
In the music video, a person gets the feeling of protection from the mother to her daughter. There is also a feeling of secureness as the mother sings to her daughter. In the song Amos tells her daughter, “When I am all

One way Tori Amos relates to the unconditional love a parent has for their child in the song is when her daughter and she says “When every door is closed, There is one more, Will you look for me?, I will rescue you.” (Amos &Hawley) In this song lyric they are implying that if everything is falling out of place, only your parents can rescue you. This shows unconditional love because a parent’s love has no limit and they would do anything that it takes to protect their child. Another way Tori shows that parents have an unconditional love for their child is when Amos and her daughter are signing and say “Can you hear the truth, If they accuse me, You think I'll doubt you?, What I need to know, will you Be there, Be there, Be there.” (Amos &Hawley) This quote shows unconditional love because if the child is accused of wrong doing, the parents will take the child’s word first.
