Toreador Fresco, also known as The Leaping Bull Fresco. This piece was created by an unknown artist, from the palace of Knossos, and it was located at Herakleion Archaeological Museum in Crete, Greece. The Piece was painted about 1500 B.C., and it was about 32 in (81.3 cm) high, which include the border. In this piece, the artist combined several formal elements to depict this scene. First of all, this wall painting lies in a horizontal plane. Although the border was designed by the rectangle shape that had repeated patterns, but the piece was an asymmetrical balance as the whole.

For this analysis, the artwork I selected a Volute Krater made in Greece during the 4th century B.C.E. The artist, The Underworld Painter, uses several lines, especially in the temple made for Atlas. The horizontal and vertical lines give the temple definite shape because of the thickness and they signify that a hero who has died, is the focal point on the back of the vase. The artist also uses curved lines at the top of the vase to show the richness of detail and drive the story further. The artist also uses the pointing hands of several figures to show a psychological point; Atlas on his throne and Selene driving her chariot.…

In his review of Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario (2015), The New York Times’ A.O. Scott states that the film’s use of graphic violence felt less like a condemnation of drug cartels and more like an exploitation. Though visually appealing, Scott describes the amount of graphic violence as ultimately numbing. According to Scott, this transforms Sicario from an exploration into failures of the war on drugs as it is intended to be, and into just another violent film. Though Scott saw this as a weakness, I found the use of graphic violence as important in establishing the world that the film takes place in. The criminal underworld found in Sicario is unfamiliar to most viewers, and I felt that the amount displayed in the film as important in establishing…

He was commissioned to paint frescos in the pope’s private rooms in the Vatican: Stanza della Segnatura, Stanza d’ Eliodoro, and the Stanza dell’Incendio. The Stanza della Segnatura stands as the most important because it displayed the four cardinal virtues (Philosophy, Theology, Law and Justice and the Arts), a topic that was chosen by Pope Julius to decorate the walls of his library. The School of Athens, painted between 1510 and 1511 portrayed the cardinal virtue of Philosophy and depicts the most recognizable philosophers of the Classical Age in Greek history. It represents the pinnacle of human achievement and the results of the pursing truth and virtue.…

When studying old art sculptures, it can be very difficult to know everything about the piece. The how, why, and when of a piece can be hard to pinpoint and that lack of information can make a piece more fascinating. The piece that I ended up choosing at the Minneapolis Institute of Art was the “Crouching Lion”. I ended up going with this piece because the size, detail, and the unknown about this piece. From 2002 until 2007, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) produced a popular reality television show in which a team of surgeons, dentists, personal trainers, make-up artists, hair stylists, and fashion advisors worked to alter a person’s looks in an attempt to transform the person’s life and ultimately make his or her dreams come true. The show was called Extreme Makeover. Miguel de Cervantes’s novel Don Quixote is the story of an extreme makeover gone wrong. Though Alonso Quixano tries to recreate himself as a hero and make his dreams come true, in reality he is only a pseudo hero; though he himself looks beyond social class and position to see the worth and potential of others, others view him as a fool; though he perseveres in his attempts…

Again, there are eight narratives that border the central portrait. The artist equally placed four framed pictures on both sides of the central portrait. Each side contains three square framed pictures, and one frame that is overlapped with an image of an angle. This variation almost changes the shape of this segment to a triangle. What makes this approximate symmetry is the variation occurs on both…

There is a balance of unity and variety in the piece. There is unity in the piece by how the walls are all the same color and the flooring is the same, and there is variety in the room by how the piece has pictures of the artwork on the wall that seems to be a little crooked, and the chairs being tilted. There appears to be a pattern in the floor in the piece The Bedroom just like real hardwood flooring has. There is balance in this piece by how there is a window in the room, and how there are two of the same types of chairs in the room. The room is asymmetric by if a person were to cut the piece in half, it would not be the same on both sides, so the piece does have asymmetric balance.…
