Unit 3: Week #2 of 8

Top positive:

This was an interesting week. Everyone came to seminar prepared for the simulation exercise. Signing in and getting started was the easiest part. All members of the team were so helpful, even though it was our first try it turned out that pretty well compared to other classes. I am thankful that professor Jackson was so understanding, knowing that it is something news we may struggle a little bit. It was an encouragement for me even when I felt bad. My colleagues really helped me in understanding, they communicate with me to ensure that I was keeping up with the simulation and I appreciate that. I am happy though that we got started so that we know what to expect for the next seminar. It was a good experience

The article I chose to complete my research on is “Math Anxiety”, by Dr. Ken Shore. I looked through several articles and found this one interesting. This article is not only about math anxiety from a student perspective, but teachers as well. I chose this because I have 11 year old twins and feel this will give me skills that can assist with me helping them with homework in the future. Dr. Shore’s explains that most people who have math anxiety are lacking confidence in their ability to complete the task.…

Over the course of the past week, we focused on three different types of dialogues. In Makau and Marty’s Dialogue and Deliberation, they stated that dialogue is easier said than done, and after participating and leading one myself, I couldn’t agree more. Throughout this paper, I’m going to reflect on how I prepared myself for not only listening but facilitating, my thoughts on how I participated on both sides during the dialogues, and my overall thoughts of the dialogues. While preparing for the first day of dialogue, I was very thorough. I took my own notes for each section and even wrote down some of my own questions.…

Before this course, I did not know grammar well, and what I did know I did not fully understand. Yet, due to taking the course, I learned more about the structure of the English language, and can use grammar better than I did before. For instance, the first three major assignments were filled with missing comas, verb-tense misuses, and run-on sentences. Now, I may still make mistakes, but I know why I have made them. In other English courses, I had grammar homework and reading assignments that, often, seemed to be busy work, but with this course, I did not think that was the case.…

Based on the answers we received, we were able to get a better idea of what is going well and what is not going well in our class. We are used to having our own opinions about how a particular activity or class may have gone, but we found it really helpful to get a clearer image through student feedback. While some of the responses are what we anticipated, some were a bit eye-opening. For example, while we expected that students might want to see less lecture-style facilitation taking place during class, we were surprised to learn that an overwhelming majority of our class would like to see fewer icebreakers. From our perspective, we thought the icebreakers seemed to go quite well and it appeared that students were enjoying the chosen activities.…

Reflection About Classroom Teaching Experience Being an educator is a challenge and a new learning experience each time. As an educator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the way students think and feel in the classroom. I have always wanted to be an educator and share my experiences with the new generation of nurses. When I was assigned to work with professor Lynette Rayman to do my classroom teaching experience, I was thrilled because the topic I chose was chronic kidney disease which also happens to be my area of expertise. I had to incorporate my previous learning experiences to make my presentation lively.…

Over the course of the semester I have been very fortunate for all the opportunities that our administration has given me to grow as an educational leader. Throughout this semester I have assisted with scheduling, developed schedules for in school remediation for both students and teachers, led faculty meetings, been placed in charge of the afterschool remediation program, dealt with student issues ranging from bullying to skipping school to tobacco. All of these experiences have helped to prepare me for life after graduate school. I have learned so much this year when it comes to scheduling. One of our issues at Fort Chiswell High School is the lack of teachers, which leads to overcrowding in some classes and small groups in other classes.…

I think it is hard as a college student to become zero-waste in our dorms, especially when it comes to food and drink packaging. I do think it is still important to focus on zero-waste when it comes to snacking and eating because it will help students be more mindful when they are buying items in the grocery store and on campus. I think focusing on buying in bulk, using reusable water bottles, and saying no to overly packaged materials is important. The chapters in the book Zero Waste Home, that talk about wardrobe and the bathroom and really helpful because I never realized how much waste I was producing with just my bathroom products. All of the cosmetics, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, toothpastes, deodorants, facewashes, body washes, etc. produced far more waste than I realized not only with packaging, but also with the chemicals they contain.…
