The term “underdog” is viewed by many as a team, group, or individual who has a little to no chance of benefitting from or winning a situation. However, these “underdogs” often times find a way to win or be the ones who benefit from a particular situation. The “giants” that they face often times are overrated or as Gladwell says, “are not what we think they are”. Throughout Malcolm Gladwell’s David and Goliath he shows how the underdogs use their situation to their benefit and how the giants or favorites are actually at a disadvantage. He supports his claim and uses evidence from various examples including education, civil rights, sports, crime rates, and bombings.…

I needed Coalby in top shape for the dog show at the county fair in twenty minutes. To begin with, there was blistering heat at the fairgrounds that day. Everything was going horrendously; I was waiting to show Coalby, but then, without warning, he used his ferocious bark at the other dogs. That’s how I figured out the importance of grit. He didn’t listen to my commands either!…

I read the first half, or the first nineteen chapters, of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. This book grabbed my attention from the first few pages. Fangirl is from the perspective of Cath, an introverted and nerdy girl, who saying that the Simon Snow book series by Gemma T. Leslie was her life would be an understatement. She is undoubtedly what one would call a ‘fangirl’. I would be more likely to recommend this book to a girl, than a guy.…

The story demonstrates how the relationship between individuals and the pack grows incrementally divergent, and how the language as an embodiment of human intelligence stratifies the pack hierarchy and complicates the dogs’ communication to the humans. In the story “Fifteen Dogs”, the author André Alexis frequently uses personification and anthropomorphism to vivify the dogs’ behavior. The attitude towards the introduction diverges as some of the dogs do not like it, while the other dogs like it and they want to continue living with it. After the exiles and conspired murders, the dogs within the remaining group led by Atticus’s hierarchy are in relationship of domination.…

An underdog is a person or a group of people whose chances of succeeding in a particular situation appear to be very low but usually succeed anyway. Humans have a natural instinct to support the underdog because they feel that they can relate, and the archetype has littered the media throughout time, appearing everywhere from biblical texts to comic books. El Cid is an underdog himself, and, despite being centuries old, is no exception to people’s love of underdogs. In fact, he is so relatable to the people of Spain that his beliefs in regards to minorities were successfully used to support both the Inquisition and the Fascist regime. The perception of the monarchy as incompetent because of their mistreatment of El Cid within the text positions him as an underdog, and this position encourages the reader to…

    Kingdom Come Summary

Kingdom Come, written by Mark Waid and Alex Ross, depicts the end of times in the DC Comic Universe at the hands of the Metahumans and “superheroes.” I will be analyzing the scene just after the conclusion of Chapter One, where Superman and other heroes are depicted flying inside the burning torch of the Statue of Liberty, in a silhouette of black and red flames. In this scene the reader sees Superman at the lead, accompanied, presumably, by other heroes of the Justice League, flying through the burning torch of the Statue of Liberty, presumably on their way to do justice. The reader knows that this is the torch of the Statue of Liberty because of the shape of the flame being depicted, and because the design of the torch matches that of the actual statue.…
